Alex Aldi on SoundBetter

Gold and Platinum Mixing Engineer and Producer with over 1.8 Billion Streams, specializing in Pop, Alt, EDM, Rock and Indie. Unlimited revisions, reach out to discuss your project!

Spent the last 2 decades mixing and/or producing artists like Passion Pit, Troye Sivan, Goo Goo Dolls, Magic Man, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, letdown., DREAMERS, Bad Wolves, [ALEXANDROS], Gryffin, Maddie Poppe, From Ashes To New, Chain Gang of 1974, Grey Daze and countless others.

I'm primarily offering my mixing services on SoundBetter, though if contacted during the production stages I can also consult or collaborate directly on additional production ideas prior to mixing. Anything that helps get the best sounding song over the finish line. I'm collaborative, I love having direct communication with the artist or producer, hearing their vision for the song (and any song references they may have in mind) and taking it from there.

Alex mixed and mastered my very first track, and when I heard the result, I was genuinely moved. He brought it to life with real depth and character.

Even though it is my debut, Alex approached it with great precision and a clear respect for the sound I was going for. He experiments and offers creative suggestions, yet always stays true to the original artistic intent — which made the collaboration both inspiring and effortless.

Alex does it again. It never gets old, though. Always a pleasure to work with Alex. Always a banger out the other side.

Alex doesn't mix; he reveals what the song was meant to be. He's a true class act.

Alex is the real deal! Started with him mixing/mastering 1 song and that went so well that now im working with him on every song of mine for the foreseeable future.

He's a master of his craft and goes well above and beyond in every way you can imagine.

    Could not recommend him more!

Alex came to our rescue. We had a track that went all the way to mastering and when it came back, I noticed two significant squeaks occurring with bass guitar finger scrape which got exacerbated in the mastering process. We decided not to go all the way back to mix. Hey...I'm human...we're all human right? :-) Alex expertly got the squeaks corralled and we're a happy bunch because of him. Thank you Alex for such great, professional, quick turnaround. Jon Fortman for The Antique Harmoniums.

Alex mixed and mastered a full album for me and he was nothing but great to work with. My project presented some unique challenges but he was willing to put in the extra effort to make it work and I couldn't be happier with the results. If you wanna work with someone who genuinely wants your music to sound great I would absolutely recommend Alex!

This may be getting redundant, but sometimes redundant is good. This is especially true when the quality of work and working relationship are excellent and conducive to an amazing final product. Lots of words to say - Alex is amazing! You'd be lucky to have him work on one of your projects.

Alex was super understanding and helpful throughout the process. He was flexible on timing and provided a ton of value and insight outside of just the mix. Hundred percent would send more work his way.

I've worked on many songs with Alex over the course of half a year now and I have to say I am so lucky to have found such a talented artist to collaborate with. I brought him songs that I thought just needed a small shimmer and he took them all to another level I didn't know was in the music. I have worked with him through countless feedback sessions and I can tell you he is one of the best engineers you can work with and 100% will get your music to where your dreaming.

I've really enjoyed the process working with Alex. Through working on an album together we've really meshed as creatives to get to a point where I can always bounce ideas off of him and gain greater understanding of my art as well. Keep killing it Alex!

Interview with Alex Aldi

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'd have to say the latest Goo Goo Dolls song "Beautiful Lie". I co-wrote, produced, and mixed it. I initially demoed it in 2020, and shared it with the band in 2022, and finally recorded it with them in 2023.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Writing for a few major label artists, and mixing maybe 3-4 songs a week.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I am new to Sound Better, but looking forward to meeting other producers on here!

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love mixing a new song every day, it never gets boring when you get to change it up every day.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: Them: "Can you master this for me?" Me: "Yes"

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: Is the song ready for mix, or does it still need editing, comping, tuning etc?

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: Been working in music for 20 years- started as a studio intern, which lead to house engineer, then mixing and production shortly thereafter. After 5-6 years I went freelance and have been doing so ever since.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: Lately, I'd say Duran Duran. A little dated even for my generation, but their songs and productions were very well crafted.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Taking something that sounds "ok", and making it sound like it's on the radio.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: Once I have the client's files and the session is set up, I read their notes, listen to their references, and get to work. I always have those notes/references in the back of my mind while mixing. Once I have something I'm happy with, I send a mix to the client to get their comments on it. Then I incorporate their notes into subsequent mixes until all parties are happy.

  21. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  22. A: Digital- analog requires maintenance and not very portable!

  23. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  24. A: To keep pushing until everyone involved is super happy with the end result. I am willing to revisit something, no matter how small, to achieve that.

  25. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  26. A: That you can throw all your audio into a mix template and get great results.

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: Loud and Punchy, with a lot of emotion.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Listen at low volumes, even when producing. It's easier to gauge how the production is taking shape, if the tempo is right, etc. It also really shines a light on vocal tuning issues.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Alt, Indie, Pop, Rock, EDM, Synth Pop etc

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: Experience in how to achieve the artist's vision. It sounds cheesy, but being able to understand general artist lingo and translate/execute that is something that only comes with experience.

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: Nile Rodgers, Diplo, Daft Punk

  37. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  38. A: Reach out and ask questions!

  39. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  40. A: Laptop, Genelecs, Apollo, a midi controller, Trinnov

  41. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  42. A: I mix in the box and monitor with Genelec 8050's and NS-10's through a Trinnov Nova, and my setup is surrounded by an ASC attack wall.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The bulk of my work is mixing, though often times I'm asked to add some final production to a song before mixing it.
