Malindi is a brilliant singer with a dynamic voice. It was a pleasure working with her and I love what she has done with my song!
Literally the best songwriter I've had the pleasure of meeting. I felt a bit insecure when I came to Malindi and asked her to write a bridge for my song. It literally took her two minutes and it sounds amazing.
The music video is about to debut on television and I have Malindi to thank for that.
Extremely talented top liner with a beautiful voice! I highly recommend Malindi Burden. Very accommodating to my request.
Interview with Malindi Burden
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People don't realized that for every successful song, there are often hundreds of unreleased songs. But I always say, you only get a one in a million song by writing a million songs.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure you know what you need from the provider. If you decide halfway through a project that you want it in a different tempo, key or style, you will still have to pay the provider for the time they already out into your project.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, mic, interface, headphones and guitar!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: It all started with a songwriting competition when I was 16 years old, and I have been writing and performing ever since.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Miranda Lambert has been my number one idol for the past decade. She represents so much of what I love, believe in and stand for, and working with her is my biggest dream.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If you have to explain a choice to a collaborator, change it. You won't have the opportunity to explain to your audience.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop and country.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal performance.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Being a vocalist, artist and songwriter, I believe the most valuable thing I bring to a song is the fact that I am both creative and practical.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to fully familiarize myself with all information the client has offered me. This usually takes up the first half of my time spent on a project. By the time I step into the vocal booth, I want to know the lyrics, melodies and harmonies by heart, as well as have a complete understanding of the thematic context. Having said that, I am focused on time efficiency and work quickly and effectively.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a home studio setup including a vocal booth and adequate recording setup for studio-quality stems.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I have had the honour of working with Rob Wells, and am greatly inspired by the way that he works.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My regular clients usually turn to me for ear-catching vocals on their demos.
