In this industry it is hard to find people who act professionally and Bay Phoenix studios is one of those that do. The masters come out better than anyone else I have used and it come out in a timely manner. The price is worth every penny and I would highly recommend Bay Phoenix studios to anyone.

Interview with Bay Phoenix Studios

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One of my favorite projects was remixing one of Andrew Lane's artist's "Gemma Rea" back in 2013 for her song "It Was Me". To date it's been the longest record I've produced!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm working on a few records, including one with Baby Goth!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes, Matthew Weiss is definitely a trusted mixing engineer buddy of mine and would highly recommend all my clients to work with him!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. Regardless of what some might say, state-of-the-art technology is akin to the analog domain. To be concise, how much software have you seen that was made into analog equipment? I conclude the opposite is usually the case.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: We will work closely with you the entire way to ensure you like the final product while maintaining a high standard of audio-production. Quality will be a defining factor of your music.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: There's a lot of hidden talent out there, and often I will become fans of my own clients. As an engineer, you're bound to work with a record that touches you.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Do we get any revisions? Yes! We will give you one revision, absolutely free!

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Mastering does not include mixing. Mastering does not solve mixing problems. If you just finished a production, you need a mixing engineer, not a mastering engineer. However, we are happy to work with you after your mixing engineers gives you a final mix!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What are your expectations?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: There's a growing trend of "AI Mastering" going around. However, one of the benefits of working Bay Phoenix Studios is that we'll work with you and give you consultation that goes beyond the mastering of the project.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: In no particular order: 1. Neve 5088 2. R10 3. SSL 500 series 611 EQ & Dyn 4. Neve 1073 5. Lynx Hilo

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I'm actually an House/Pop producer as well. Audio Engineering kind of became a sub-path.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: This question is a bit tricky. I'm definitely a huge fan of Rupert Neve dynamics, however, it really depends on the record as sometimes certain things I'm a fan of might not be suitable for that particular record.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with a range of artists. I've worked with a lot of artists I grew up listening to in the Bay Area, Ca, however this was largely in Live-Sound setting. However, it was still super cool mixing their shows! Definitely a huge highlight of my life.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Stay organized, it make everything so much easier. Including replicating results and streaming-lining your creative process.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: We work with all varieties of music. From Hip-Hop, Pop, EDM, R&B, Rap, Beats, Metal, Rock, International, Alternative

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Working with deadlines and achieving the flavors our clients want in their masters.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Emotion, dynamics, that extra 'oomph'.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Working with us will look something like this! 1) Ask you a few questions 2) Upload content 3) Master track 4) Review Track 5) Client Perks (most work with us for these sweet perks!)

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: We have a hybrid setup at Bay Phoenix Studios with an every-growing palette of flavors. Our analog flavors include names like Rupert Neve, Solid State Logic, Lexicon, and more!

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: There's a lot to mention, typically mixes with a lot of ear candy or emotional rollercoasters tend to suit my ear best.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: We mostly just provide mastering for our clients, however, on rare occasions we offer our mixing services as well. However, due to time constraints, it's not something we can offer to every client.
