Stevie Flowers on SoundBetter

Looking to produce instrumentals and vocals for artists who want to express themselves in their most authentic way.

At 23 years old, I have been producing since I was 17. Over these past 6 years, I have been getting better at playing guitar, piano and just crafting a sound that is uniquely my own.

Within my first year of releasing production tracks online, I had produced songs that made it onto multiple Spotify editorial playlists such as ‘Lorem’ and ‘Fresh Finds: Best Indie of 2020’.

Since then, I have gone on to release my own music, and I continue to sharpen my skills of songwriting and vocal performance.

I'm always looking forward to branch out and produce for more people and even learn from my clients' own perspectives, as well. I'm prepared to work on all kinds of music - anywhere from soft pop ballads to hard rock.

Interview with Stevie Flowers

  1. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  2. A: I always try to surprise us both and go beyond what you asked for.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I am especially proud of my production credits on the song 'enjoy it while u can!' by wordsbyjuni. I sent the beat stems for that song to the indie Canadian artist, wordsbyjuni, while sitting in my university library. And a half year later, his song was on multiple Spotify playlists and I was running around my neighborhood like a mad man (literally scared the sh*t out of my neighbors).

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I'm always working on new beats and my own songs.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog. Nothing beats the warm tone of analog gear.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I'll work on a project until you're happy with the final product.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: To make good music, you have to get out of your head. It's meditative.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What do you listen to? Who helps inspires your sound? What other hobbies/talents do you have?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Find someone you feel comfortable talking to and sharing new ideas with. I think making good music takes a certain degree of vulnerability, and you should feel free to speak your mind.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I took a music production class in high school and always thought that making beats was such a cool hobby. Then I started doing it myself, and I realized it's all I ever wanted to do. I started making beats during my senior year of high school (2016) and never wanted to stop. At this point, I couldn't stop making music if I wanted to.

  19. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  20. A: Izabel - Songwriter & Vocalist She's a great friend and undeniably talented.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: 1. Acoustic Guitar 2. Rhodes Electric Piano 3. Notebook (hopefully they let me take a pen too) 4. A Condenser Mic 5. My MacBook (f*ck, I need a charger too...are there wall outlets on this island?)

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Stevie Flowers

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I would be honored to work with Remi Wolf or Dominic Fike. Both of these artists can't help but be authentic. I admire that.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Good music is feeling. If you aren't feeling it while you're creating, the listener wont feel it either.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I usually work on indie pop, lofi hiphop or alternative rock, but with a wide range in music taste, I'm confident I can channel the vibe of any song/genre.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Writing chord progressions and melodies. I find it easy to follow the feeling of a chord progression or a melody line and they are usually are pretty beautiful.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: Usually when making a beat: 1. Chord Progression (Guitar/Synth) 2. Drum Beat 3. Melodies/Counter Melodies (Guitar/Synth) 4. Bassline 5. Arrangement/Transition FX 7. Mixing 3-6 hours each day with 15-20 min. breaks every hour to let my ears reset.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I use the latest version of Logic Pro X on my MacBook Pro. I have: - Scarlett 2i2 audio interface - Audio-Technica AT4040 condenser microphone - Godin Session HT Electric Guitar - Yamaha PSR-E343 Electric Keyboard (used as a midi controller) - Fender CD-100 Acoustic Guitar

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: From adopting all of my dad's favorite music and playing the famous Guitar Hero games, I grew up listening to all of the popular rock bands from the 1960s to present day like: The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Boston, U2, Van Halen, Nirvana, The Police & Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. Then, as a stoner high-school kid, I connected so heavily to the discography of some modern greats like: Kid Cudi, Odd Future, Chance The Rapper, Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar & absolutely, Mac Miller. Nowadays, I love how the indie scene is so eclectic and all of the textures from some of the best modern pop music shines through on great acts like: Rex Orange County, Still Woozy, Dominic Fike, Remi Wolf, BROCKHAMPTON, Gus Dapperton & WILLOW

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: Usually, artists send me projects that they've written over beats they find online, and I recreate a new beat under their vocals that better serves their artistry and the song idea as a whole.
