Interview with Amber Maxwell

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: I engage in the entire music creation process, writing lyrics, crafting melodies, and performing all vocals. When I receive assignments from clients, I excel in swiftly composing lyrics and developing melodies—a favorite aspect of my involvement in music projects. The thrill of sharing my creative output with clients after this initial phase is particularly exciting for me. I prioritise efficiency, diving into the work immediately to ensure the ideas are fresh, facilitating a collaborative process moving forward. The writing phase holds a special place in my heart; it's the art of constructing narratives that resonate with people. I find immense joy in connecting with the audience through the stories woven into the lyrics, melodies, and vocals. In today's world, where connection is more crucial than ever, I am dedicated to crafting music that fosters genuine connections. From the lyrics to the melody, vocals, and the overall musical experience, I strive to deliver content that resonates deeply with listeners, creating a meaningful and relatable connection.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: One project that holds a special place in my heart is the collaboration with my first producer in Australia on a track I wrote eight years ago. It was particularly meaningful because it brought immense joy to my biggest fan, my mum. Making her year by releasing this track was a heartfelt accomplishment. Another standout project is 'Me Myself and I,' where I had the privilege of writing and singing in the incredible Sonic Vista Studios with the legendary Henry Sarmiento. The experience was surreal, not only for the collaboration with an epic producer in Ibiza but also for the unique creative atmosphere of his 400-year-old villa. To share this moment with my mum, who flew to Ibiza after a long separation, added an extra layer of significance. The subsequent remixes, especially by the talented Stonebridge, further elevated the project. Currently, I'm deeply invested in a new project titled 'Sometimes,' where I played a multifaceted role—writing lyrics, creating the melody, singing, and recording vocals. Set to release in 2024, this project has been a special journey that I'm eager to share with everyone. Reflecting on my career, performing in iconic venues like Atzaro Ibiza, Melbourne Cup Australia, and Vogue Fashion Night Out has given me unforgettable moments. These experiences are a testament to the incredible journey and the genuine connections made through music that I am forever grateful for.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: At the moment, I've just wrapped up writing and recording vocals for a track in collaboration with a producer who did a remix on my original 'Me Myself and I' release. Additionally, I've completed two other tracks with a producer I've been working with for the past two years, and he's the same talent I collaborated with on the 'Me Myself and I' track. In between, I'm actively producing my own music, writing, and recording. Looking ahead to 2024, I'm gearing up to perform many of my past releases in Australia and Ibiza. Simultaneously, I'll be dropping my upcoming releases during the tour, making it an exciting year for both live performances and new music release.

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: At the moment, I'm new to SoundBetter, so I don't have any specific recommendations. However, I'm eager to explore and connect with fellow professionals on the platform. As I become more familiar with the talented individuals here, I'll certainly keep an eye out for collaborations that align with the standards and creativity I value, and I'll be happy to share recommendations with my clients when appropriate.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: I appreciate the unique qualities of both analog and digital formats, and my choice often depends on the specific needs of the project. Analog provides a warmth and character that can be particularly appealing for certain genres and styles. On the other hand, digital tools offer unparalleled flexibility and precision in shaping sounds. Ultimately, the decision is guided by the desired sonic aesthetic and the project's overall goals. It's about finding the perfect balance between the organic richness of analog and the precision of digital for each unique musical endeavor.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: My promise to clients is a commitment to delivering not just a musical product, but an experience that exceeds expectations. I pledge to approach each project with dedication, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of your vision. Open communication, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit are at the core of our partnership. Whether it's through writing compelling lyrics, crafting melodies, or delivering vocals, my aim is to create something that resonates profoundly with your vision and leaves a lasting impact.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: What I love most about my job is the inherent joy in the creative process. Whether it's writing lyrics, crafting melodies, or performing vocals, each step is an opportunity to express emotions and tell a unique story through music. The ability to connect with others through my creations, coupled with the constant evolution and exploration of diverse genres, makes every project a fulfilling and exciting journey. Collaborating with talented individuals and witnessing the transformative power of music is truly the heart of what I do.

  15. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  16. A: Common customer questions often revolve around the creative process, timelines, collaboration, musical influences, genre experience, and feedback handling. I emphasise tailored creativity, efficient timelines, open collaboration, diverse influences, versatile experience, and a receptive approach to feedback.

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: The most common misconception about my work is that it's solely about the final product—the music you hear. While the end result is undeniably crucial, there's a deeper and often misunderstood process that goes into crafting each piece. It involves intense creativity, collaboration, and meticulous attention to detail from the initial concept to the final mix. It's not just about hitting the right notes; it's about creating an emotional connection and telling a story through sound. So, while the music is the destination, the journey to get there is just as significant and often underestimated.

  19. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  20. A: When working with potential clients, I begin by exploring their project through a series of key questions: * Project Vision: What is the overarching vision or goal for your project? * Style and Genre: Are there specific styles or genres you envision for your project? * Specific Requirements: Do you have any particular requirements or elements you'd like to include? * Timeline: What is your desired timeline for the project? * Collaboration Preferences: How do you envision our collaboration? * References and Influences: Are there specific artists or styles that inspire your vision? * Budget: What budget range are you considering for this project? * Technical Specifications: Are there any technical preferences or specifications? In addition to these inquiries, I want to emphasise that I'm open to negotiating work-for-hire or royalty split arrangements. Let's engage in a discussion about terms to ensure mutual satisfaction and build a strong relationship. I'm genuinely excited about the prospect of our collaboration and embarking on this epic journey together!

  21. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  22. A: If you're considering hiring me, my advice is to engage in open communication about your project. Share your vision, preferences, and any specific requirements you have in mind. Whether it's the style, mood, or particular elements you're looking for, detailed information helps me tailor my skills to meet your unique needs effectively. Don't hesitate to ask questions and discuss expectations upfront; this ensures a smooth collaboration, allowing us to bring your musical vision to life seamlessly.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: If stranded on a desert island, my essential gear would include a versatile microphone, a portable MIDI controller, a powerful laptop with music production software, closed-back headphones for monitoring, and a solar-powered portable charger to keep everything running!

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: I've been deeply immersed in the world of music for over two decades, and my journey has been both diverse and rewarding. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working across various genres, including House, Deep House, Pop, EDM, and Acoustic. With a substantial vocal range, I've consistently strived to deliver something special in each composition. The joy I find in the creative process, whether it's writing lyrics, crafting melodies, or performing vocals, has been a constant driving force. In addition to my experiences in Sydney, Australia, and Ibiza, Spain, I've also had the opportunity to record and collaborate in Germany. The rich musical landscape and cultural influences in Germany have added a unique dimension to my work, further expanding my creative horizons. Collaborating with incredible producers and creatives across these locations has enriched my musical perspective. The ability to share moments of creativity and excitement with a team that I've been working with for over 20 years has made this international musical journey truly fulfilling.

My ability to navigate a wide spectrum of genres, from House and Deep House to Pop, EDM, and Acoustic, allows me to deliver something truly special in each composition. I bring a blend of authenticity and emotion to my work, leveraging my vocal range to create a unique and compelling musical experience. Whether it's the energy of electronic beats or the intimacy of acoustic arrangements, my style adapts to capture the essence of the music I'm working on, ensuring a distinct and memorable sonic signature.

  29. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  30. A: Halsey is awesome! I love her versatility with the music she creates, Tash Sultana love her work! Tina Arena is one of my old time favourites her vocals are really something else! Absolutely love Robin S. her vocals are NEXT level and Show me love has been around forever! Peggy Ghou love her music and her vocals are always on point with the epic tracks she delivers. 35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: My strongest skill lies in the seamless fusion of lyricism, melody creation, and vocal expression within the realm of music. From the moment I receive a track, my ability to swiftly and naturally translate emotions into compelling lyrics sets the foundation for a song's narrative. Crafting melodies that resonate with the music's essence is another facet of my proficiency, enhancing the overall sonic experience. What sets me apart is not just technical prowess but an innate connection to the creative flow. This allows me to infuse authenticity into my work, capturing the mood and emotions of a piece effortlessly. Beyond individual talents, my strength also lies in communication and collaboration. I have cultivated long-lasting relationships with producers and clients over two decades, fostering an environment where creativity thrives, and everyone involved feels a part of the artistic journey.

  37. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  38. A: In crafting a song, I bring a unique blend of creativity and passion that seamlessly intertwines with the music. As soon as I receive a track, my instinct is to immerse myself in the creative process—writing lyrics, crafting melodies, and lending my voice to give the song its distinct character. Immersed in the creative flow, I align with the vibe of the track, allowing inspiration to guide my expressions. As I listen to the music, I find myself immediately in a state of creative flow. Whether it's a track sent to me or one I've crafted, the process seamlessly unfolds. The joy I derive from this creative pursuit makes it more than just work—it's a fulfilling experience. Once I've molded the lyrics and melody, I eagerly reach out to the producer or client, sharing my enthusiasm. I can't resist sending a voice memo, capturing the essence of what I've created, and expressing the excitement that compels me to share it promptly. Having cultivated longstanding relationships with producers and clients over the past two decades, there's a sense of familiarity and synergy in our collaborations. I love the ease with which we can be creative together. Sharing these moments, whether through a voice memo or a quick message, not only solidifies the creative journey but also sparks collective excitement. It's a shared experience that brings everyone on board, fostering a sense of unity and anticipation for what's to come.

This collaborative journey is truly something special, and I cherish every moment of it.

  43. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

I've worked with incredible producers and a team of creatives over my time and this by far is one of the best processes. I have performed a lot and with incredible Dj's for live fashion and music events but I really do love the creative process and sitting in studio recording a piece of art you have all made and contributed to, its really such a beautiful thing to be a part of.
