"Finding a producer for your music project can be a challenge. I was lucky to find Paulino. He is a talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. Attention to detail is excellent. He has all the industry standard resources. He can take your project from seed level to television commercials/film and get labels interested in your finished project."

Interview with Paulino Lorenzo

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I started in the earlies 90´s in Spain. I was composing and making music arrangers for several artists. Later on 2005, me and my partner got a huge success with a novelty track in France, Spain and Hispanoamerica. Here goes the link http://bit.ly/26A3TxP. We really learn how to produce after that. After that, we have been working developing different artists, mainly the canadian Brendan Croskerry (http://bit.ly/1pNUUYg), and then we create a brand "SugarfreeDjs" (http://bit.ly/23K8rmo) It´s about making dance pop with different artist worlwide. Today I´m setting up a brand new publishing company. "Palo Publishing".

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I work as a composer/producer for a french publisher. And I´m on my own publishing company as well.

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: usually they want to "sound like..." My answer usually goes: Being realistic is a good way to start a good track.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Apply to the sub a light distortion. Low eq. it till 500 Hz. Record a full scale in your Sampler machine. Bounce it to have the audios. Apply a limiter (fab Filter is good +9 dbs.) Bounce again. It´s about not to have dynamic range (3 db maximum) Cut every note. Put the same level on every note. WE´re talking about RMS, not peak. Voilá. you got a really powerfull sub.

  9. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  10. A: When I met brendan Croskerry (2007) we did an entire album and we signed a license with MTV New york. I have that contract framed at home!!

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: There are many. But to me Beyoncé is #1. Why? She has all the skills. And personally I think she continues the traces of the soul¨s Goods, Isaac Hayes, Prince, Aretha, etc.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Mac or Pc, LogicXPro (bundles of plugins, samplers etc.) Mic: Maybe telefunken. KRK & Dr. Dre Headphones. Upright piano. I would be happy in that place.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: Outboard: Universal Audio and Avalon Preamps. Mic: Charter Oak, Neumann. PCI: Apogee. Mixing: Logic X Pro, Avid Pro-tools. Monitors: Yamaha, Focal. Studio Instruments: Upright piano Yamaha U3. E. Guitar Fender Telecaster. etc.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: I think I´m not innovative in this field. On one hand my musical background is close to Soul, Jazz, and many other styles. On the other hand I do my job following the #1 nowadays producers: Darkchild, Dr. Luke, Diplo, Ricky Reed etc.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I usually work closely to composers, singers, or other producers: I pay attention to all details that they require for their project .When I consider that I deeply understood the ideas, I try to take them to the next level.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: I usually received an idea, demo, rogh edit. etc. I analyze that. And I get the strongest issues, and later on we agree that I make a pre-production. When we agreed what is the best way, I continue working deeply in the arrangement and mixing.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I bring clarity, brilliance, and originality

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: To understand what the artists requires and take it to the next level. I´m easy to work (and to deal) with.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Lately I´ve been working on Dance pop, Tropical House, EDM tracks.

  29. Q: How would you describe your style?

  30. A: Musical.I always try to do music, not "style"

  31. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  32. A: I´m here to help you the best I can.

  33. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  34. A: What are your references? what´s your finish line ?

  35. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  36. A: Not a single producer make miracles. Everybody needs help to do a smash track.

  37. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  38. A: I really like to help people to achieve his goal. In terms of music, it looks easy, but sometimes you simply don´t find the right person to do it.

  39. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  40. A: I promise try my best, I´m going to take really seriously your job.

  41. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  42. A: It all depends. If the track is good it doesn´t has that importance. If the track is bullshit, it doesn´t have any importance. So what?

  43. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  44. A: I´m a rookie in this place... But I have seen many interesting people there.
