Interview with Arran McLeod

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently worked with a church on an album and was the producer, mixing engineer and one of the main songwriters in the project. There's 10 songs on the album and I think it displays passion for music and expertise perfectly.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I will not stop working until the song is exactly how you want it.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I love taking people's songs and getting them to a place where the vast majority of people could enjoy them.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Be as specific as possible with what ideas and sound you are going for, and I'll finish the rest.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: I love mixing and blending genres, I'll take a pop song and give it a house drop. I love bending the rules as long as the song hits the right way.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Music production is story telling. Your musical choices need to match what the lyric ideas are conveying and make sure that the emotion is portrayed correctly. Before you can have a wide and massive chorus drop, you must have a narrow verse. Music production is about contrast. "Before you have wide, you must have narrow, before you have bright, you must have dark".

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I mainly specialise in pop, hip-hop, indie/folk and RnB

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: I am very perspicacious and understand exactly what your song needs.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: I am a very creative individual and can help you push the boundaries of what you might think is musically possible. Every song idea has many different possible finished outcomes; if you choose to work with me, you're chosing to make sure that your song idea becomes the best version of that song it possibly can be.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I will take a rough mix to polished mix in my studio room, then I will reference back and forth between my phone, car speakers and studio speakers until the song has been tweaked to perfection.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I work from home in a sound treated room. I do all my work on my ns-10's (some of the greatest mixers still swear by these) and my avantone mix cube for referencing and mono compatibility.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: I'm a massive fan of Jeremy Zucker's productions.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: I take your song from rough idea/production to polished and ready to be released. That includes mixing, producing and songwriting.
