Interview with Audioraine
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Welcome Back Delta's first album, Shocker. I wrote the lyrics and melodies, also sang them all and played rhythm guitar for it too. It was a huge creative effort that ended up with some awesome tracks!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: An angry political rock song for one client, a sad country song about loss for another.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet, but I need to look at more profiles!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Different answer for different moods, Digital for on the move and convenience. But if I'm sat in the garden with a coffee, sometimes a vinyl record hits the spot
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will always do my best to help you create a song to be proud of.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Every job is different, every day is a new journey. Keeps it interesting.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you do "X" genre. And I normally answer with yes, as I have worked in many genres. However there are some that I don't feel equipped to work in, and when asked about those, I will always be honest.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it is easy
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What genre do you want to create in? How long a song? Do you have a backing track already? Do you have a theme or subject matter in mind?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Get in touch, ask questions, find a writer/collaborator who will work towards the songs you want. And have fun!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If you mean musical gear? Then an acoustic guitar, a wind up radio, a uke, spare strings and pen/paper. But if you mean to survive, Knife, Tarp, Rope, Flares, Lighter
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I had alot of ear trouble as a child, when that was corrected I fell in love with my voice. Started singing and never looked back. I have been in bands since I was 13, I just love to create music.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I like to write in metaphors, and have multiple layers to what I write. But if you want one word, I'd like to think it's Versatile.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Rews, they are a powerful rock act making waves and I believe they will go far.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If it sounds good. it is good.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Hard Rock, Stoner, Desert Rock, Classic Rock... there are alot of rock genres. However my music taste is broad and so is my writing ability.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Lyrics writing
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Experience, Imagination, Collaboration, and sometimes its just a second pair of eyes needed to get perspective. Most people who want to create music have some of the idea, it's my job to help it become whole.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My work process starts with the client, depending on how much of an idea they have of how they want to do things I tailor my work flow to suit. If they have an Idea of what they want I will conform to that, if they aren't sure then I can guide them. It is whatever the song needs to come to life,
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is covered in alot of sound treatment panels, with room for 17 instruments, amplifiers and drums. I work in it almost every day, there are also various comics, toys and pieces of art to keep me inspired!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland, Jerry Cantrell, and many more.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly write lyrics, either from my own inspiration, something the client has written (whether it be a a single word or an essay!) or in some cases I am given a vibe or brief. Some want a song written for someone, or for an ideal. My job is to make it happen! I also write vocal melodies and song arrangements.
