CRAZY PRICES CUTS! Hey, my name is Paul. I'm a Nashville Native songwriter, guitarist, & mix engineer. I've had the honor of touring/recording with Grammy Award Winning artist for nearly 10 years, all while working on my masters at Berklee. I recently had the privilege of recording, mixing, & mastering some songs for Steven Curtis Chapman.

Check out my new track! It's a demo to give you an example of my work. I also had the privilege of having my friend Thomas Morgan on drums (he slays). I would love to finish the song so let's write some lyrics ;)

One of the more popular songs I had the pleasure of Mixing, Editing, & Mastering was "Always Been U" for the artist PHANGS. The song has had over 1,000,000 plays on Spotify and featured in the top playlist.
Working with me you will find that I'm passionate about quality work and strive to make this process easy and inspiring for you. I always put the artist first!

Here's what I specialize in.

MIXING: While attending Berklee College of Music I was trained by some of the top professionals on how to deliver a mix that brings out the best qualities of your song.
-
GUITARIST: I would love to play on your song! I've been a guitarist for 15 years and can create sounds that you desire to match your song.
-
INSTRUMENTATION: I can track Bass - Drums - Keys - Synth - Male & Female Vocals
-
PRODUCTION: It would be an honor to create the music that will fit your song. This can be a full production recording to your specifications.
-
MASTERING: I've been through high levels of training for mastering. Let me give your song a loud, clear, & defined sound.

Did an excellent job and I couldn't be more impressed :)

Interview with Paul Spears

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: Being creative. That is my favorite part! I love getting lost in the song.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: Kemper, UAD Apollo/Macbook Pro, Acoustic Guitar, Akai MPK49, Avantone CV12.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I have been doing music for 13 years professionally. Toured as teenager, Went to Berklee College of Music, Toured with Relient K for a couple years and currently touring with Steven Curtis Chapman for 5 years! Crazy.... Worked with other artist as well.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: My style is a country kid that loves pop and indie music. I can't runaway from my accent but I don't just write country music haha my musical style is pretty diverse. The kind of song that comes most natural is Indie Pop. I really like to had organic textures to make the song feel real. That's pretty much my style

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Don't always worry about achieving the perfect sound while creating the production. The important part is being creative first then refining the sound to match the song if needed. I've spent hours working finding a sound before I even had a part that I loved. So focus on song first and then getting the perfect sound.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: My work tends to vary slightly. Right now i'm working on a country track, pop track, & folk track. That's kind of where my expertise is. I also can throw down on some Hardcore, Punk, or Pop Punk guitar. You know high-school...

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Strongest Skill would probably be Guitar. I've been playing for over 15 years and i'm not a shred daddy but I do know how to play well and compliment the songs. I also know good tone which is very important.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I try to bring honesty to a song. With either the lyrics or sounds... I want to be honest and clear spoken on what the song/artist is saying. It's very important to not get caught up in trying to sound like some other band because they have had a successful song. There is so much more that goes into it.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I would like to think my process is Artist first and time efficient for the client. I like to start with talking about the artist dream for the track even if i'm just mixing. I want to know the heart thats driving the song... Then I will move to discussing workflow and planning the project out. Taking all the notes and making sure things will be delivered exactly how the artist wants it.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: My setup is actually very simple and distraction free. For me I love chasing sounds but I know the limits of wasting time looking for something that does not exist... so I have my go to tools within arms reach. That way I can be more creative with my time. Simple studio monitors, UAD Apollo, Kemper, Pedalboard, Bass, Acoustic Guitars, electric Guitars, Synths, Keyboard, Tube Mic, Organ.... All surrounding me! I really love my space.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Some of my biggest inspirations tend to change all the time. I would say over the past couple years my biggest "hero" is Jack Antonoff. The guy is a sound design genius and seems to have the magic sound for each part. I would love to be Jack when I grow up lol.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: My most common work is producing and songwriting. I love the thrill of finding the song lyrics, melody, key, etc... then taking that to recording process and just building off the inspired direction either I or the Artist feels the song needs to go. This is so much fun!
