Interview with MorenikeMA
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I really would like to work with Selena Gomez for sure. I feel it would be so much fun making music with her, and our vibes are so similar that I think our voices would mesh very well. She has been an influence of mine since I was very young, and I have always looked up to her.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I kind of just feel out the vibe of the song, think of what emotion it brings up, and go from there. I freestyle vocals and lyrics for a second and when I find something that fits, I build off of that.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a pretty basic setup at the moment.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on an album for myself, I want it to speak on some of my personal experiences this past year and the clarity I have gained. I am really excited to get it all put together and see how far I can really go with my own personal music career.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: David Wade. He is an amazing vocalist, lyricist, and engineer. He is someone who has actually helped me to improve my own personal projects and has helped me a lot to refine my craft.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I take everything I do very seriously, so you won't ever have to worry about me being able to reach deadlines or how much effort is being put into a project. I am very passionate about what I do and if you are reaching out to me about my services, I feel a great responsibility to take care of the project we are working on.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like the creative freedom it provides. What I do has become a huge part of my identity, but it also helps me to express myself, which in turn helps others do the same. I have heard that my music helps people describe things that they can't always put into words or vocalize themselves.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Communicate as much as possible. If you don't like how something flows, or you want a different sound, don't be afraid to let me know. I am very flexible and always looking for ways I can improve.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I am currently in school for Audio Production and engineering, but I found interest in singing when I was 5, when I was 10 I became interested in songwriting and poetry. I started teaching myself how to play the keyboard when I was 12, and I have been putting my music out since I was 16 or 17. I don't play piano too much anymore, but I would love to eventually pick it back up and incorporate it into my music. Overall I have been doing this for 12 years now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would say its very eclectic. It can't be defined or labeled really.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Give yourself breaks. It helps a lot to take small breaks in production whether you are writing, singing, or doing the mixing and mastering. You will feel a lot more satisfied if you listen with fresh ears.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Anything with acoustic guitars. I like to work on Indie music, sometimes a little pop isn't bad. I mainly focus on anything that feels more upbeat.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Definitely singing. I have been singing for a long time now, and over the years I have really gotten to know my voice and what I am capable of.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I feel that I bring a lot of emotional depth when it comes to lyrics and vocals. I feel everything I sing or write on a very deep level, so I believe that helps to give the music more layers in terms of what people are getting out of the music.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, there are so many people that inspire me. Especially Sa Roc.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I most often provide vocals or lyrics, but I am now offering engineering as well.
