Interview with Luiz Hauck
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Specially composing sync licensable music.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, I was born in the digital world, it surrounds me since I was a child. I also love the possibilities we have in electronic music, the tons of different ways to process and manipulate sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I can promise high-quality orchestral and cinematic music. That's what I do best.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like composing most than anything else.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Nothing, I love what I do.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Hire a decent composer, not someone who just goes repeating patterns in the DAW.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Well, if there was electricity, a computer, a digital piano/keyboard and a USB cable. Basically all I need.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've started in music as a 7 years old child, studying guitar. Later I began a bachelor's degree in music composition, which I'm finishing now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Classical, cinematic.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Film makers and others who want an orchestral arrangement carefully produced in their music.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Be careful to do the best in each part of the process. Great mixing can't solve composition problems. Great mastering can't solve mixing problems.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Classical, orchestral and cinematic music in general.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is composing.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I compose the music on Sibelius and then transfer it to Reaper, where I do all the midi mockup, mixing and master.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I subscribe to the East West Cloud X, have a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface, a Yamaha digital piano, 2 microphones (a condenser and a dynamic)
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm specially inspired by the great composers (and Bach above all).
