Played with Pink Floyd, Tom Jones, Eddie Vedder, Marianne Faithfull, Ween, Nick Cave, Les Claypool and many more.

I have been a professional piano player and producer for the last 25 years. I've played with some of the biggest names in rock music and now produce and record from my studio in Los Angeles.
I do primarily sessions on B3 and piano but also produce and record music of many different genres at my studio. A big part of my work is scoring for TV and film. I composed and produced a lot of the music for Comedians in Cars getting Coffee.

Interview with Harry Waters

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm about to go on tour with Les Claypool so I'm learning 40 or so of his songs.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: I get to make music for a living.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I started in Led Zeppelin and Grateful Dead cover bands and then started playing with established musicians. I've been on the road touring for the last 25 years.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: Randy Newman. He was my biggest influence as a child learning to play the piano and songwriting. I would love to write and record together.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Try and get the best sound you can at the pre amp stage.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Classical, funk, rock, blues, Americana.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: My piano playing.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I grew up listening to New Orleans piano music so this runs in my blood. I spend my teens listening to rock and funk music of the 70's and this clearly forms my approach to playing and writing music.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: If I'm doing keyboard work, I'll listen to the song a couple of times and then just hit record and play through it a few times until it sounds great.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I have a Yamaha C5 as my main piano. I use Cubase as my DAW. I was incredibly lucky to acquire Meade Lux Lewis' piano a couple of years ago which is now in my studio. I use BAE 1073s as my go to preamps.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Rick Rubin, Andy Wallace, Mutt Lang, Little Feat, Quincy Jones.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: I'm a composer for TV and Film and do a lot of session piano and keyboard work.
