Interview with Audio Junkie Music Productions

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recorded an Audible version of an authors book that was also picked up by Peacock (NBC) as a mini series where they wanted to release a new version of the book, the Audible version of it and the TV series. Very cool!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on a new project with Jeff Silverman (Rick Springfield, Nick Gilder, etc). Can't say too much on that at the moment though. :)

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: no, I just joined up... haven't really looked yet.... but I will

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. I have worked on both and with today's technology some of the differences are indistinguishable from analog. A vast majority of listeners and music lovers will not be able to tell them apart if done correctly.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise a well balanced mix that you will be proud to present to your fans and the world!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love sound and mixing and have been obsessed with it since early childhood. I love music and helping others achieve sonic realities to present to the world!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can you make me sound like 'X' artist. No, you should sound like you.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Fix it in the mix.... that isn't always possible.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What kind of sound are you going for? Related artists?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Make sure your recording is clear, unaltered and free of distortion to get the best possible mix.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums, bass and a multitrack device

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My career path has always been music ever since I was 5 years old. I have been playing in bands, engineering and recording for around 30+ years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is big, large sounds but also detailed and distinguishable in terms of instrumentation. I like to hear the instruments and dynamics of each instrument in the song.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Would love to work with Big Wreck as they are one of my favourite artists.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Less is more when it comes to EQ, compression and reverb... and maybe even loudness (more dynamics = better feel)

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Rock/pop, metal, country & folk

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill are my ears and knowledge of using a fully digital environment.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: We bring a full balanced mix that is clearly understood and is balanced well over the frequency spectrum.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: If it's a mix, it would be listening to the unedited, unprocessed version of the song to determine the direction and feel of the song. From there, if any edits or additions are needed, those would happen next. After that it's all about getting the right balance, EQ'ing of instruments and addition of FX, etc.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Fully digital with Studio One, Advanced Audio microphones, tons of plugins from several of the best companies in the business. Live e-drum tracks with Superior Drummer 3, guitar modeling from Overloud TH-U.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Jeff Silverman, Kevin Churko, Kane Churko, Bob Rock,

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I provide recording, mixing and mastering for a majority of my clients.
