Benito Colop

Session Woodwinds, Arranger

Benito Colop on SoundBetter

Session woodwinds player with more than 50 years experience, & Horn Arranger on numerous Banda hits from the 90s.

Hailing from Quetzaltenango Guatemala, Benito began his musical education at home, where he learned Saxophone from his father, a musician who performed in many big bands in the 1940s. He began performing professionally at the age of 12 in many popular music groups in Quetzaltenango, where he honed his musicianship in community with musicians such as Domingo Betancourt. Eventually he became an established saxophonist and began touring Central America, Mexico & the US with groups such as Grupo Rana, Marimba Ecos Manzaneros, & Ecos del Pacifico. It was on one of these trips that Benito crossed paths with Norbesto Cigala, the producer of Banda Toro, who invited him to write horn arrangements for the Band. Benito would go on to write arrangements for several hit songs such as “La Noche Que Murio Chicago” & “Rios de Babilonia”. Benny has had more than 50 years of experience as a woodwinds player and arranger and brings an infectious sense of melody and keenly honed sensibilities to his work in many genres.
