Interview with Hernan Hamui

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The next one is always the best.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m working on a soul track with some really talented musicians. It’s going to be a hit.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both analog and digital have their place. Depending on the project, you might choose one or the other to achieve the best sound, but analog definitely has its own magic.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise to clients is to deliver a high-quality, professional sound that brings their vision to life.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: My style is focused on clarity, balance, and creativity. I aim to bring out the best in each element of a track while making sure everything works together cohesively

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: Charly Garcia. He is crazy and I love him.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: I believe that sometimes less is more in music production. It’s not about overloading a track with too many elements, but rather making sure that what’s already there works well and contributes effectively to the overall sound

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I love all types of music. Recently, I’ve been working with genres like folk, soul, rock, and pop.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: I care deeply about sound quality and take the time to make sure every detail feels right and intentional.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: I like bringing creative ideas to a song, finding the right sounds and contrasts to help the artist say what they really want to say.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I have access to high-quality monitoring in my studio, which allows me to handle the entire mixing stage with precision. For recordings, I usually work in professional studios that offer the possibility of using analog gear to achieve a richer and more organic sound.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: I'm a big fan of Quincy Jones and his approach to music. I draw inspiration from artists like Charly GarcĂa, John Mayer, Jacob Collier, and Robert Glasper, as well as bands like Queen and The Beach Boys. Their musicality, depth, and creativity constantly influence the way I produce and think about sound.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: I usually start by getting to know the artist, their story, taste, and what they want to say with the song. I ask for a few reference tracks to get on the same page. From there, we build the production together through arrangement, recording, mixing and mastering. Everything is done with professional audio quality and a lot of care.
