Interview with jovoj
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I mixed and mastered an entire VA release from my label I Am Boho. Each track had a different mood, but I brought sonic consistency and warmth that tied it all together. The feedback was amazing.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently curating releases for my new label lisusillisusil, and mixing upcoming tracks for multiple downtempo producers.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet, but I’m open to collaborations with anyone who respects the art.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. It gives me flexibility, speed, and high-quality results especially with today’s top tier emulations.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I’ll treat your music like it’s my own. I’m committed to quality, emotion, and your artistic vision.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Hearing the final track after the process. When a client says, “That’s exactly how I imagined it that’s the best part.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you make it sound like anima? Yes, I can capture that vibe, but I’ll also enhance what’s uniquely you.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing and mastering is just about making it “louder.” It’s really about emotion, energy control, and balance.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask: What’s your reference track? What platform is this for? What emotion are you going for?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who understands your genre deeply and is ready to communicate clearly. It’s not just about sound, it’s about feeling the track’s purpose.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, headphones, UAD Apollo Twin, Ableton Live, and a portable MIDI controller.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been producing for over 5 years, evolving from ambient experiments to full on label management and mixing/mastering for other artists. I’ve built two record labels and a catalog of over 100 releases.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Deep, dreamy, textured, and always grooving. I aim for timeless, emotional club music.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Miss Monique. Her hypnotic builds and deep soundscapes would blend perfectly with my mixing and production approach
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more. Focus on removing what doesn’t serve the vibe. Clarity always wins over clutter
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Downtempo, deep house, organic house, melodic techno, and chill progressive electronic music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Translating emotion into sound. Whether it’s through sound design, a warm master, or hypnotic groove edits I always aim for feeling.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Clarity, emotion, and balance. I make sure the listener feels the energy and vibe while the track translates well on all systems
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I listen deeply to the artist’s vision, reference similar tracks, then shape the mix or master gradually starting with the groove, then building the atmosphere and depth.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I keep it minimal and clean. I work in the box using high-end plugins, analog emulation tools, and precise monitoring. The focus is always on the ear, not the gear.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists like Miss Monique, Sébastien Léger, Armen Miran, and Kiasmos. They create immersive sonic journeys that blur genre boundaries.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly handle mixing, mastering, and remixes for deep, melodic, and downtempo electronic tracks. Clients often come to me for a signature sound that combines warmth, space, and groove.
