Mixing Engineer

Cameron Vitale on SoundBetter

A Mix Engineer who will work tirelessly to achieve your vision. I have worked professionally for three years in this field mixing for small artists and bands. I may not have Abbey Road-level hardware but I will work harder than the ones that do to get your song exactly where you want it.

I'm Cameron a mix engineer working out of New York City, I have worked across several genres my most prominent being Indie Rock, RnB, Funk, and Hip hop. As said before what I do not have in hardware I make up for in technical ability and communication. I am a servant to your project and the most important thing is your vision and what you want the track to sound and feel like.

Interview with Cameron Vitale

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: A project that I worked on that I am especially proud of is a funk track that has not been released yet but I do have a snippet of it on my profile.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now I am working on mixing an album for the band Screenroom.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: For me right now I prefer digital, while analog can add a nice warmth to tracks I do fully believe that warmth can be achieved digitally as I have done it for years now, the minute difference between the two is not worth the thousands of dollars in equipment and maintenance for me and many other professionals.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: Your song WILL sound how you want it to and I will stop at nothing to make it.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love music in general, I have loved it for most of my life and continues to offer me a place where I can create and express myself even through mixing.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: How long will this mix take? Usually 1-2 days. Do you do mixing and mastering at the same time? I can do a mix and master for your song if you'd like for a discounted price.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That it is an easy job to mix, mixing can be extremely difficult mentally and physically after long periods of time, and you really have to build up your ears!

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What Vibe do you want for this song? Anything you want to be the star most upfront? What are some songs you want this one to sound like?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: I would say be as upfront as possible about what you want and please listen to the mixes I provide you in as many environments as possible.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Rode NT-1, UA Apollo Interface, PC, 1972 Telecaster, and an Amp.

  22. A: I have been doing this for three years I am self-taught, and after I graduated High School I went straight to audio engineering.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: I would consider my style to be dreamy, and smooth. Shimmery reverb upfront vocals and smooth guitar.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I would love to work with King Krule because I love his sound and the way he crafts his songs.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Always EQ your reverbs! And you want to keep the life and groove of the performance present in the track.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I usually work on Indie Rock, Funk, Hip hop, RnB, and more I have a wide range of tastes as a fan of music so that represents what work I do and the clients I have taken on.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: My strongest skill I would say is my ability to balance a mix, the elements I want to pop, pop! And the ones I want to keep in a stable rhythm stay there.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: I bring a very strong ear and creativity to songs, If I am given leeway on a song's mixing and atmosphere I will bring my creativity to the table and mold the atmosphere of the song.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: FIrst and foremost I want the vision of the song from the client I'm working with, the feel/vibe is so important in mixing, and from there I use a top-down mixing approach usually where I balance all of the tracks and try to identify the most important elements and accentuate them.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I work on a Computer using ProTools the industry standard, and I have all of the industry standard software that the best Producers and Engineers in the world use.
