I produced and mixed a song with Camilo and he did an AMAZING job. Camilo was the perfect partner to translate exactly what I had in my head into my song. He is great to work with, always open to bounce ideas back and forth, try different things and jointly get to the perfect result. he has a great ear for mixing and great taste

Interview with Camilo Arias

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I’m especially proud of is “Noches Negras” by Feiver Daza, a song that involved a deep and detailed production, mixing & mastering process. This track was also the winner of the “Crea Sonidos” competition, led by renowned artist Yuri Buenaventura, which makes it particularly meaningful for me. I’m also very proud of “Reflejo” by LUTE, a project where the creative process, production, and sound development were essential in building a strong and emotional sonic identity. In both projects, my role was producer, mixing engineer, mastering engineer and sonic director, overseeing every stage to ensure the music reached its highest artistic and technical potential.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m focused on growing One Soul Studio, working on stereo mixing and mastering, Dolby Atmos 7.1.4, educational content, mentorships, and collaborations with labels and international artists.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes: Daniel Cortés, Daniel Uribe, and Camilo Silva.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I mainly work digitally because of its flexibility and efficiency. What matters most is having a clear sonic vision and reaching it, regardless of the tools.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To be honest, professional, and fully committed, always doing what’s best for the song and being clear about what’s realistically achievable at each stage.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Every project is a new challenge. Music constantly pushes me to grow, learn, and enjoy the creative process. this is like a game for me.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: The most common question is about pricing. My response always starts with understanding the project, because we don’t just offer a technical service—we offer artistic guidance and development.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Confusing mixing, mastering, and production. Many songs aren’t actually ready yet and need earlier-stage work before these processes can be effective.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: - What genre and references do you have? - What emotion do you want to convey? - Where will the song be released? - Do you have sonic or visual references?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Have clear references and a defined vision. It’s also important to make sure the professional you hire has real experience in the genre you’re working in.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: - My computer - Audio-Technica M50x headphones - An Antelope Audio interface - A small MIDI controller - My DAW

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I´m 28 years oldI’ve been a musician since the age of 8, a producer since 15, and working professionally in mixing and mastering for over 7 years. I’ve worked with artists such as Golpe a Golpe, Ryan Castro, Jorge Gil, Vanessa Silva, Feiver Daza, and Cojo Crazy, among others. My education includes studies at Fernando Sor and the Tolima Conservatory. Today, I make my living entirely from music and from developing the artistic vision of the projects I work on.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Modern, emotional, and consistent. I focus heavily on micro-dynamics, transients, and automation, making sure each section of the song has its own identity, impact, and depth.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with artists like Justin Bieber and collaborate with producers and engineers such as Josh Gudwin, Jason Joshua, Mosty, and Lewis Pickett, due to their versatility and ability to elevate songs to the next level.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Pre-production is everything. Defining references, emotions, instrumentation, and structure before producing saves time and significantly improves the final result.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I work across a wide range of genres: pop, urban, electronic, rock, punk rock, Latin dance music, corridos, Andean music, and fusion styles. My musical background allows me to adapt easily to different sounds and artistic contexts.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My ear, musical taste, and attention to detail. I’m especially strong at identifying subtle issues and opportunities that are often overlooked.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring experience, musical judgment, and artistic vision. My goal is to enhance clarity, intention, and emotion—not just technically, but by helping the song reach its true potential.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Everything starts with a consultation and assessment. We first analyze the project to determine whether the song is truly ready for mixing or mastering. Once the project is approved, we schedule the work, handle payment, sign a contract, and begin. We operate as a legally registered company (SAS) in Colombia, ensuring a professional and transparent workflow.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: One Soul Studio is a mixing and mastering–focused studio located in Ibagué, Colombia. We feature a Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 room, designed for immersive mixing under high professional standards. We’ve dedicated significant effort to acoustic treatment, creating a controlled and accurate listening environment that allows for reliable decisions across the entire frequency spectrum. The studio is equipped with high-end Antelope Audio conversion (Orion Studio), PMC & Kali lp6 reference monitors, and a monitoring system optimized for detail, depth, stereo imaging, and immersive sound. We are also official endorsers of Antelope Audio, a brand whose conversion and clocking quality play a key role in our workflow.
