Interview with Oracle Audio

  1. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  2. A: I bring honesty and edge to my work. I like to work with the artist to get the most out of the mix so I'm not having to make broad strokes on their delicate work. I try to highlight areas that are doing really well and bring the artists attention to areas that can be addressed to improve the listeners experience. I also like to listen to the artist when they want to experiment, I'm not afraid to get under the hood and try new things to achieve new sound.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: Everything is dependent on the project. I tend to start with just listening and taking notes on things that may need adjustments or that I want to highlight. After listening, I tend to start fixing the things I noticed and then adding processing. As I increase saturation/compression/clipping, any other issues tend to become obvious and I go back and fix those. After that, its a back and forth balance between making minor adjustments to improve clarity and reduce ear fatigue while still maintaining the desired level of loudness.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I have an m3 Macbook Pro, UAD Apollo Twin, SRH 1440, HD 650, Subpac, Vintage Ibanez LP copy, Gretsch Double Jet, Fender Precision Bass

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: Typically I spend the majority of my time doing mastering for artists and editing podcasts.
