Interview with VIVA
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I co-produced Higher with South African legend Mobi Dixon. That song came from a deeply personal place and resonated with so many people. It’s a reminder of how music heals and connects.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m working on my album inspired by my travels across Curaçao, London, South Africa, and Indonesia. I’m also co-producing albums for some big industry names.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because it’s portable and allows me to create wherever I am. My travels inspire me, and digital tools let me produce on the go.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You’ll get a unique, high-quality piece of art that you’ll be proud to share with the world.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The creative process—it’s magical to turn individual sounds into something entirely new and unique. I love creating music that connects with people.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Question: Did you really make that? It sounds amazing! Answer: Of course! Women do it best.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That women can’t produce high-quality tracks. I’m living proof that we not only produce, but we create magic.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s the mood or vibe you’re going for? Who’s your target audience? Do you have reference tracks for inspiration? Do you need vocals, or will it be instrumental?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you’re looking for a fresh, sexy Afro hit that stands out, I’m the one. Trust me to bring your vision to life with beats that resonate globally.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Headphones, MacBook, soundcard—I actually don’t need more to produce!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started making music at 6, taking 7 years of keyboard lessons. I’ve been DJing since 2011 and producing since 2013, building my craft for over a decade.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Sexy, percussive, and rhythmic. My music is designed to make people feel good and move their bodies.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with Rema. His style perfectly aligns with the Afrobeat and electronic sounds I produce. I feel my beats would complement his voice and energy seamlessly.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Simplicity is key, especially when adding vocals. Keep the beat catchy and straightforward—it makes the music more memorable and leaves room for the artist to shine.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Afro electronic music; Afrobeat, Amapiano, Afro house, 3 Step, and Deep house. These genres let me explore my passion for creating rhythmic and emotional tracks.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I excel at understanding a client’s vision by asking the right questions. My strongest technical skill is my mastery of percussion and crafting unforgettable build-ups that bring energy to any song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a unique style with percussions that hit differently and a sexy energy that stands out. As a DJ, I know how to create music that moves people.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It depends on the project. I start by asking detailed questions to understand the client’s vision. Then, I craft a foundation with some percussion and add melodic elements.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists like Rema, Wizkid, Tyla, and Burna Boy for their unique sound and global influence. They’ve mastered blending Afro genres with universal appeal, and I aspire to do the same.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I create custom Afrobeat, Amapiano, and Afro electronic beats tailored to the artist's style. I specialize in creating music that’s sexy, percussive, and produced to make people dance.
