Pop Mixer

quinny on SoundBetter

Berklee educated mixer, producer, writer, marketer, and engineer who's worked with artists like Benson Boone, Nessa Barrett, Bebe Rhexa, Chelsea Cutler, and more. With a focus in Pop music, I've mixed a number of tracks and done numerous collaborations for my peers as engineer, producer, and artist.

I can mix your pop songs with a careful and experienced ear, widening your mix, gluing sounds together, and making vocals sound crisp and clear to sit in the mix well, bringing them up to a professional level. I am a Berklee educated professional artist who has years of experience in the industry and credits from many collaborations from marketing to producing, engineering, writing, and singing. I specialize in pop production, and have a personal artist project of a collection of pop songs fully made, mixed, and mastered by me being released soon.

Interview with quinny

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am very proud of my own songs and artist project! It was a very fun process going from start to finish on every song, ranging from acoustic to electronic, and seeing how it informs the production, mixing, and mastering process.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on launching my own artist project under the moniker "quinny". I have five songs fully made by me from writing to mastering, and I am continuing on refining my process by making more songs!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Mark aka BlindHardt! He is a great guitar player, and amazing vocalist with incredible rasp.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog is great, but I prefer digital! I like having a pristine template where I can control and fine tune my own analog tone and insert those "imperfections" in a controlled way.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will give your song the full attention and the necessary time it needs to be most effective. I will provide up to two free revisions just to ensure that you are happy with the end result.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love interacting with people, meeting fellow musicians, and hearing all sorts of new music!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Does it sound bad? What needs to be fixed? My philosophy is that many songs aren't 'bad', they just aren't effective in achieving their goal. That's what I'm here for! I'll help your track be more effective to get the point across to the listener.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Once you know how to mix, you can just mix any song. Each genre and individual song has it's own needs and direction to go in, and you can't just apply the same template to everything.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: How many tracks do you have? Do you need vocal tuning? What vibe are you going for? Is there a rough mix you could send me to inform the direction?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Trust the process! Trust our ears as well. If you have any issues, make sure you can identify and communicate them well so we can quickly make revisions and have a great end result.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My cassette tape recorder, my Korg vocla drum machine, my sample drive, my sennheiser headphones, and my pink IEMs!

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I began as a computer science student, then stumbled accidentally into the music industry, quickly racking up work with high profile artists from all big three labels.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is emotional longing pop, massive catchy choruses with emotional verses and lyrics.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I am fortunate enough to have worked with the artists I would like to! I would love to have one on one sessions with Chelsea Cutler and Quinn XCii.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Using channel strip plugins like the Lindell 80 strip add a great tone, warmth, and openness to your mixes, they aren't just volume faders!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on pop music, but I have experience with rock and hiphop mixing.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skills are engineering, mixing, and writing, but I have produced and mastered a great number of songs.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring my unique quinny sound, with punchy drums, clear vocals, and balanced and glued together sounds to bring your pop songs to a professional level.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I typically mix with Sennheiser HD6XX headphones and my monitors, but check my mixes on consumer IEMs and airpods to ensure the mixing decisions carry over to a more typical listening environment.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a home studio setup with high quality headphones, monitors, and a subwoofer. I have a soundproof recording space with an Audio Technica 2020 xlr microphone that fits my voice well.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I am greatly inspired by the Mutual Friends group of Quinn XCii, Chelsea Cutler, ayokay, etc. I've worked with them many times in the past and they are amazing.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I typically do mixing and engineering, but I can do every part of the process.
