Interview with Scnd.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm really proud of my beat tape, Headspace as well as the a single I produced with King Cruff, Solo YT & Jag Huligin called Baddest. You can find both of these on all streaming platforms.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently I'm focused on a sequel to my beat tape with Graphwize, GRITS, as well as a project with another producer, Cedar Law$. I'm also working with a few local Rap artists in The Bahamas, including Von Trap and Slawta House Music.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: If there was one person I'd recommend, it would be Graphwize. He is very personable, does amazing work, and shows great attention to detail.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. I love the color and depth analog offers, but digital gives unmatched precision and recall, as well as flexibility. I combine them for the best of both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I’ll treat your music with the same care and intention I give my own. Your vision, translated professionally and on time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Elevating someone’s raw creative energy into a final product they’re proud of.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Can you make my track sound like (insert artist)?” — Yes, I can match the vibe, but I’ll always make sure your own sound comes through.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing fixes everything. A great mix enhances what’s already there—it doesn’t rewrite the song.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s your sonic vision? Do you have references? How much creative freedom are you comfortable with? What’s your deadline?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know your vision and reference tracks. A great mix starts with strong communication, not just gear.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Laptop, ZOOM U-44 Interface with Mic attachments, a good pair of headphones like the Audio Technica ATH M50x, a versatile MIDI instrument like the OP-1, and a 2TB hard drive.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started in music production over 10 years ago, earned a diploma in Music Industry Arts, and a certificate in Audio Post Production. I’ve mixed, mastered, and sound-designed for artists and games since.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Clean, warm, and emotionally tuned. I focus on modern, competitive mixes that still feel human.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: If it's R&B, probably Brent Faiyaz. For Hip-Hop, probably would have to choose Roc Marciano or JPEGMAFIA.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more. Don't overthink and be mindful of fatigue when creating.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Primarily Hip-Hop, R&B, Electronic, Trap, and sound design for game audio. I’ve also worked on ambient, pop, and hybrid genre projects.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My attention to detail and an ear for vocal presence and balance, especially in R&B and Hip-Hop. I know how to make a voice sit right in the mix while leaving space for the beat to breathe.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Clarity, punch, and emotional balance. I help make the artist’s vision hit harder while still feeling authentic and polished.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start with a deep listen to the artist’s references and rough mix. Then I build the mix in layers—prioritizing vocals and low-end first. I check translation across devices and refine with feedback.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a wide array of professional plugins for Mixing, Mastering, Production and Sound Design. I have a few select pieces of hardware for my stationary setup, as well a handy 'toolkit' of equipment for work on the go!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by a wide range of producers like Kaytranada, Flying Lotus, Sounwave, J Dilla, Odetari, BNYX, MexicoDro and many more. I listen to a huge variety of different artists and I am an avid consumer of many genres.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and mastering tracks for independent and signed artists—mainly in Hip-Hop, R&B, Trap, and Electronic. I also work on instrumental production and sound design for games.
