Velvet Sounds on SoundBetter

I can get the artists vision and deliver exactly what they wanna hear.

My name is Francesca Laneri AKA Velvet Sounds. I studied Sound Design at SAE Institute in London and am a multi-instrumentalist with extensive experience across virtually every area of the music industry. I’ve performed live across Europe, playing guitar, bass, and keyboards, and have had the honor of opening for legendary acts such as The Ramones. Renowned musicians—including Steve Hackett of Genesis—have recorded on songs I’ve written.

As a ghost songwriter, I’ve penned over 100 tracks, and as a ghost producer, I’ve created a wide range of releases in genres such as House, Tech House, Melodic House, Melodic Techno, and Afro House. My clients have been signed to respected labels and have won numerous competitions.

Interview with Velvet Sounds

  1. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  2. A: Can you make a track that sounds like "this famous artist"? Absolutely! I can match the style, energy, and sound design, but I’ll also bring a unique touch so it doesn’t feel like a copy. The goal is to create something that aligns with the artist’s vision and target audience, but still stands out as original and professional.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I'm really proud of this latest project — I did something truly unique with house music that hasn’t been done before. I can’t reveal too much yet since the track hasn’t been released, but it’s a surprise worth waiting for. As the ghost producer, I created the entire track from scratch, bringing the main artist’s vision to life.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I'm currently producing tracks for two distinct projects, collaborating with two exceptionally talented DJs

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both analog and digital, because a combination of the two can get you very far in terms of sound.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will do my best to make your vision come to life.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love what I do and I love the results with the clients, I love the fact that they have an idea, a vision, a desire, and I can make it happen.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: I'm not sure there's a major misconception, at least among those who understand the kind of work I do. People who are familiar with ghost production usually appreciate the time and dedication it takes — the years spent developing the necessary skills, the countless hours experimenting with creative ideas, exploring gear, and constantly learning and refining the craft.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: A precise and detailed vision of what you wanna achieve will get you closer to achieving it.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: An acoustic guitar, 4 recorders running on solar power. That way I get a guitar, a percussion, a multitrack recorder and plenty of sounds since I am stuck on an island.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I have been doing production and sound design for the past 10 years full time and before that I have been playing live gigs since I was a kid.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: My style is the style of someone who is easy going but has a lot of experience both in live music and studio time. Clients love that.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Peter Gabriel and Brian Eno, they were already masters before I was born and I love their work.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Listen to the client very carefully and ask them specific questions. Use your skills and talents and never be more creative than needed because the point is never to lose the original vision and ideas the artists brought to you.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I have worked on all sorts of music from funk to pop and rock, from classic house to hard techno.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: My strongest skill is to understand the artist's vision, ideas and bring them to life.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring my experience, taste and technical knowledge but I always follow the client's vision. The process includes building the track from scratch: creating drum patterns, basslines, synths, effects, and transitions, while carefully tailoring each element to suit the artist’s style. I also ensure that the final product is mix-ready or fully mixed and mastered, depending on the client's needs. Throughout, I stay in close communication with the client to fine-tune details and guarantee the end result is not only high-quality, but fully aligned with their artistic identity.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: Using the reference track, I analyze key elements such as structure, groove, sound design, arrangement, and mix. From there, I craft an original composition that aligns with the client’s intended vibe and genre—whether it's deep and melodic, percussive and driving, or upbeat and club-ready.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: As a ghost producer in the house music genre, my role is to bring a client’s creative vision to life through professional music production, while remaining behind the scenes. Typically, clients provide a reference track that captures the sound, mood, and energy they’re aiming for—this serves as a creative and technical benchmark.
