Mixing, Mastering & Production

Louis Obric on SoundBetter

Engineer and Producer, 11 years of experience. Affordable, efficient and precise work.

I'm an audio engineer and music producer originally from North West of France, currently based in Grenoble. I'm most known as an artist under the alias "Framboisier".

I started in 2014 to produce House music and quickly made releases on established labels such as Gestalt Records, Duality Trax, Shuffle Valley and Backspin. My passion for music production pushed me to studied sound engineering during 4 years. Over my career I have received the support of scene heavyweights such as Palms Trax, Job Jobse, James Zabiela, Secretsundaze, Spray, Peach, Roza Terenzi, BASHKKA and many more. During all these years, I learned how to shape sound and I naturally start to work as an engineer for other artists.

Interview with Louis Obric

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm very proud of my EP on Gestalt Records. It has received a lot of support and it was really a step up for me.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both are great and complementary in my opinion.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I always do my best to make sound a track as good as I can to make sure the client is more than satisfied.

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: The biggest misconception is that engineers do a lot of things but in fact if a track is well produced you really don't need to do a lot. I can't turn a bad track into a good one by mixing and mastering it.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Send me a message and let's discuss!

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: A good computer, a pair of Genelec monitors, RME audio interface, E-MU Orbit 9090 V2 and Proteus 2500.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: I think I have my very own style which is inspired by the 90s/early 00s dance music scene. I try to do "funny" House music and not be too serious. Some of the vintage gear I use is definitely defining my style. Regarding to engineering, I think I have a fat and a bit dirty sound.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: Skee Mask. I think he's a genius, his music really inspire me!

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: Less is more! This is valuable for production but also mixing/mastering. Don't go too hard with FX like imagers. I quote this effect as this is very common to receive premasters that are way too wide and doesn't sound natural at all.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: I really pay attention to the cohesion between songs that are in the same project.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I bring punch, life and clarity. By using these words, I mean that I make sure that the drums are punchy, that the song is not boring and that the overall tonal balance is good.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: I start by talking with the client to understand what he/she wants and I ask some references. Once I have all the stems I start to organize the session and I quickly start to work. I tend to not spend a lot of time on a track and be efficient. Then I send a first version to the client and I do modifications if needed.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: I mostly do mixing and mastering for my clients. If needed I can also give detailed feedback.
