Johannes Markov

Singer/Songwriter/Narrator

Johannes Markov on SoundBetter

Warm, raspy baritone in the sonic realm of Rufus Wainwright and Jamie Cullum‘s voices. Singer with 30 year experience in songwriting and recording for various projects in and around Berlin, Germany. Some narrating experience. I specialize in lush baritone vocals doubling, harmonizing, octaves and and ad/libs.

Hi there, my name is Johannes Markov. I am a Berlin based who is looking for studio session male singer jobs in or around Berlin.
I don’t have a ton of studio credit to my name (yet) but I am quite versatile when it comes to singing different genre styles.
Musically I was socialized in my formative years with Queen and loads of early nineties American alternative acts.

Tell me about your project and how I can help, through the 'Contact' button above.

Interview with Johannes Markov

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: All the work for the band Nique, since it’s a joy to work with fellow musicians that don’t need to communicate verbally to get ideas across.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Trying to find a new studio space to be able to work independently again.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Hezron Chetty.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: It’s all good, I don’t pick sides.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Putting their musical vision to life.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being a musical conduit.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: I haven’t worked all that much for paying clients, rather than indie band projects.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Not all singers are divas. You’ll find a down-to-earth specimen in me.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is it the project needs, what can I do to make things run as smoothly as possible.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I would kindly advise to check out my profile and hire me on the spot.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Electro Voice RE 20 My rerun electronics preamp. A Wurlitzer as well as a Space Echo RE 201 and a Strymon Blue Sky pedal.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been writing and recording with bands for 30 years and am now trying to get a foot in the door with Studio Session work for singers.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Clearly influenced by the unpredictability of Jazz, but I wouldn’t describe myself as a Jazz Cat. I love music that has the freedom to go to all extremes, but doesn’t.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Fiona Apple, Madison Cunningham

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don’t „get married“ to ideas. Sometimes cutting the fat or being able to discard ideas will benefit the song more than throwing in everything but the kitchen sink. :)

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Alternative, Indie, Singer-Singwriter, Dream Pop.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Great ear for harmonies, impeccable English pronunciation.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: A variety of genre experience, the ability to fatten/embellish vocals to the customer‘s need.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Trying to facilitate the customer‘s vision.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I am currently looking for a new studio space and can therefore only be booked for studios that have been rented/owned by the client.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Fiona Apple, early Rufus Wainwright, Madison Cunningham

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I have written and recorded mostly for different projects in and around Berlin and am trying to get hired for singer studio session gigs of all kind.
