The key to a perfect mix is listening to what the song desires to be, and with every mix I perform, I am simply revealing its true self.
Hi! I’m Ryan Dupre, a freelance audio engineer based out of Austin, Texas. Working with me means working with someone who cares about your music just as much as you do. If you are looking for someone that can get the crack of your snare just right, make your guitars scream with emotion, or draw out the intimacy of a vocal, you’ve come to the right place. My mixes and masters are warm, balanced, and full of clarity… unless of course the song calls for dark, dense, and intense.
My many years as both a musician and a lover of music has helped to develop a keen ear for all the little sonic details one must pay attention to during the process of recording to mixing to mastering. I specialize in mixing in the genres of rock, blues, folk, and all things alternative and indie. I can also master your project if desired. My philosophy as an audio engineer is to always act in service of the song and the artist. All songs tell a story—one that deserves to not only sound amazing, but also radiate with emotion and achieve your creative vision.

Interview with Ryan Dupre
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: The sound and vibe that analog exudes is special and undeniable. I work mostly digitally right now to keep costs down for both you and me using almost exclusively Acustica Audio plugin emulations, which I have found to truly nail the soul of analog unlike anything else.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My work trends toward sounding warm, balanced, and clear. A huge inspiration for me is the rock records from the 90s. Think "Gish" by Smashing Pumpkins, "Going Blank Again" by Ride, "Nevermind" by Nirvana, etc. A time when when analog recording was at its peak, and records had both a lushness and a certain clarity to them.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It's always best to get things right at the source. Record like there is no mix, mix like there is no master. Not only does it help you execute your creative vision faster, it inspires and invigorates the soul, leading to a better end result.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Most of the time I'm working on rock music. Soft or heavy, if it's got guitars in it, it's right up my alley.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing is my bread and butter. Many times clients will also have me master their work too.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That you will walk away with results that fulfill your creative vision.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What moods are you trying to elicit? Do you have any reference tracks you're trying to emulate? Any reference tracks for specific elements such as guitars or drums?
