Interview with NM (NUMAWAVS)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I could write a whole topic about this — but to keep it short: the idea is usually more important than the production itself. Don’t get lost in details or try to make everything too perfect. I know from experience as both an artist and producer that it’s easy to overproduce. At some point, you have to say stop — if the idea works and the feeling is there, that’s what really matters. Keep it simple, and let the track breathe.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on House and Dance music — mainly the styles you named: Melodic House, Stutter House, Deep House, Vocal House, and Afro House. I’m generally focused on house music as a whole — that’s where my sound and strongest skills lie. That being said, I’ve also produced Pop tracks and type beats in the past, so I can easily adapt to different styles if needed — but my main focus and passion will always stay on the house side of electronic music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is execution — knowing where a production should go and how to get it there. In electronic music, it’s all about creating a certain atmosphere that connects with listeners, and that’s where I focus most of my energy. I can take an idea, even something simple, and turn it into a full track that feels cohesive, emotional, and ready for release.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to bring the artist’s vision to life — translating their ideas and emotions into a sound that feels true to them. Every project is different, but I always add certain elements of my own production style — warm melodies, detailed sound design, and a sense of atmosphere that gives the track character. My goal is to make something that feels both personal and professional — a song that the artist is proud to release and that connects with listeners right away.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually, every project starts with a simple loop, vocal idea, or a few chords — something that captures a feeling or mood. From there, I build the full arrangement, develop the sound design, and shape the mix to bring the track to life. I like to keep the process collaborative — sharing ideas and references with the artist to make sure the final production feels personal, emotional, and ready for release.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Back in the days I was inspired by artists like Diplo and Kygo — they really shaped how I approach melody and rhythm. These days, I’m more inspired by the overall vibe and sound rather than specific names. I love the textures of Afro House, Melodic House, and Deep House — genres that balance energy and emotion. Sometimes it’s even smaller or upcoming artists who create tracks that perfectly capture that feeling — and that’s what keeps me inspired every day.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly work on hands-on co-productions and full productions — taking an idea or rough demo and turning it into a release-ready track. I love being involved in every step of the process, from building the arrangement and sound design to mixing and final polish. My goal is always to bring out the emotion and energy of the artist’s vision while keeping the sound fresh, dynamic, and ready for streaming platforms or labels.
