Eifel Mastering on SoundBetter

With 25 years' experience in audio, I'm now fully focussed on analogue and digital mastering. I offer special rates for indie artists - pro mastering can be pretty affordable, and it is far better than any AI solution or doing it yourself, as your music deserves an independent set of ears, heart and soul.

Real, live mastering engineers provide final QC and an experienced, independent set of ears, making your great mixes even better. We put the icing on your cake, correct frequency or dynamics issues that you couldn't hear in your studio environment, help your mixes translate across a wide range of systems, and achieve genre-specific loudness with as few artefacts as possible.

I love anything that's a proper song, from punk and electronica to folk, and seek to support the artist's vision and emotions in how I approach mastering. No one-size-fits-all formula; each track is addressed individually and its full potential is thus realised, utilising both analogue gear and cutting-edge mastering plugins where required. I also consider it part of my job to give mix feedback to producers and/or artists. It's all about collaboration, preferably on a long-term basis. It's well worth it.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

We couldn’t be happier with the mastering work Recky has delivered. I, as the producer and mixer, as well as the artist, had no idea how much mastering could improve a mix that we thought was pretty damn good already. Thank you very much!

Interview with Eifel Mastering

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: The fact that many artists or producers believe they can do it themselves, thinking it's just sticking an EQ and a limiter on the stereo bus.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Various remasters for artists and labels.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both, but increasingly, digital, as plugins have become as good as outboard, if not better. And they're recallable.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I'm happy when you're happy.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: The fact that I get to work with a lot of different styles and artists.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Make sure you get along with, and are on the same page with, your mastering engineer. Once you've found the right guy or girl, stick with them.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: 25 years of music and spoken word production, engineering and mastering.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Low-shelf everything, except where low end is required.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: All types of genres.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: Grasping the emotional intent of a track.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: An experienced set of ears. A listener's perspective.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: Listen for artistic intent and issues that need fixing, choose the right tools for the job, fix and add fairy dust where needed, test various limiters for transparent (or not-so-transparent) limiting.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: Great sounding room, Neumann monitoring, ADT Audio, SPL and Tegeler outboard, a good variety of cutting-edge mastering plugins, reel-to-reel machine and various types of vintage tape.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: The old-timers in the mastering field.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
