Interview with Dario D'Achille
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of was a track where I handled the entire production process — from composition and sound design to mixing and final delivery. It started from a simple melodic idea and evolved into a rich, cinematic piece with detailed textures and dynamic rhythms. I’m proud of how it captured both technical precision and emotional depth, reflecting exactly what I wanted to communicate through sound.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment, I’m working on new original material and collaborations with other artists, exploring new sounds and textures. I’m always experimenting and refining my approach to keep my music evolving.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not anyone in particular, but the platform is full of talented, creative, and skilled professionals.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. I believe each has its own character and purpose. Analog offers warmth, unpredictability, and tactile inspiration, while digital brings precision, flexibility, and endless creative possibilities. The magic happens when you combine them.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to listen carefully, respect your vision, and bring it to life with care and creativity. I’m committed to delivering music that feels authentic, detailed, and emotionally engaging — something we’re both proud of
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most about my job is that we communicate through a boundless, free language, without preconceptions or barriers. Music allows ideas and emotions to flow directly, creating connections beyond words
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: One of the biggest misconceptions is that producing electronic music is just about pressing buttons or applying presets. In reality, it involves creative decisions, sound design, arrangement, mixing, and emotional storytelling. Each track requires thought, attention to detail, and careful shaping to reach its full potential
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When I work with new clients, I usually ask about their vision for the track, musical references, target audience, and desired mood or energy. I also clarify technical details, like stems, tempo, key, and any specific requirements, to make sure the production process is smooth and efficient
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice for clients looking to hire a producer is to be clear about your vision, share references, and communicate openly. The more information you provide, the better I can understand your goals and deliver a track that matches your expectations. Collaboration and feedback are key to creating music that truly resonates
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Korg MS-20, modular system, a Juno 106, Elektron Analog Rytm, and a tape recorder.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My career in electronic music started as a teenager, experimenting and having fun with friends. After high school, I pursued formal training at the Conservatory in Electronic Music and Sound Design, which gave me a solid foundation in both musical theory and production techniques. I now have 15 years of experience, working with artists and labels to turn ideas into polished, professional tracks.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is constantly evolving, shaped by experimentation, creativity, and a desire to explore new sonic territories. I aim to keep each track fresh, unique, and expressive
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with artists like Gesaffelstein, for his clear and defined artistic vision; Jon Hopkins, for the emotional and immersive sensations his music evokes; and LORN, for his innovative approach to sound design.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Even if you have limited gear, make the most of what you have. Music is made with ideas, not equipment.Creativity and thoughtful decision-making are far more important than having the latest tools.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on music with intricate rhythms and cinematic melodic elements, creating tracks that are immersive, dynamic, and emotionally engaging.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is using my taste, instinct, and knowledge to make creative decisions that bring out the best in every track.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring professional production, hybrid sound design, and polished mixing, creating immersive, release-ready tracks with depth, emotion, and unique sonic character.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by discussing your vision and references, then develop the arrangement and sound design using my hybrid setup. I produce, mix, and refine the track until it’s polished and ready.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in an acoustically treated studio equipped with Adam A7X monitors and an Apollo audio interface, ensuring precise and clear monitoring. My main DAW is Ableton Live, fully loaded with the latest industry-standard plugins for production, mixing, and sound design. My workflow is hybrid, combining digital tools with hardware synthesizers, a modular Eurorack system, and various drum machines. This setup allows me to blend analog warmth and character with digital precision, giving each track a unique sonic identity and depth
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I draw inspiration from a mix of electronic music pioneers and modern producers, including Aphex Twin, Four Tet, Kraftwerk, Burial, and Trent Reznor. I also follow contemporary sound designers and modular synth artists who push the boundaries of texture, atmosphere, and production techniques
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I primarily provide full electronic music production, sound design, and mixing for artists and labels. Most clients hire me to turn their ideas, demos, or stems into polished, release-ready tracks.I use a hybrid workflow of hardware, modular, and digital tools, combining analog warmth with digital precision to create tracks that are both powerful and emotionally engaging
