Interview with Noah — Audio Engineering
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of my proudest projects was a podcast series about mental health, where I handled all the editing, noise reduction, and mastering. The host told me listeners finally commented on how “peaceful and professional” the show sounded — that felt incredible.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently mixing a few student projects from HOFA and helping a small indie artist with their debut single, focusing on creating depth and energy in the vocals.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet — I’m new to the platform, but I look forward to building connections with other passionate creators soon!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital — because I love flexibility and recall speed. But I always aim to bring that analog warmth through saturation and subtle harmonic processing...and analog is expensive and music should be available to everyone
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise clear communication, professional quality, and full attention to your project — no shortcuts, no copy-paste mixes. Every track gets my full focus until it sounds right.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Hearing the moment when a mix comes alive — when the artist smiles and says “That’s it.” Turning rough ideas into something emotionally powerful is what drives me.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Can you make my song sound professional even if it was recorded at home?” → Yes — with good editing, cleanup, and balance, even home recordings can sound great. It’s about using the right processing and respecting the source.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing or editing is just “turning up the volume” or adding fancy plugins. In reality, it’s about emotion and translation — making sure your message sounds right everywhere.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What sound or artist are you inspired by? How should the listener feel when hearing your track? What platform is your final mix for (Spotify, YouTube, podcast, etc.)? Do you have reference tracks you love?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who listens — not just to your audio, but to your vision. A great engineer should care about your emotion and message as much as about the technical perfection.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop with Ableton Live or FL studio Audio interface (Universal Audio Apollo Twin X Duo Gen2 Ess+) DT 770 Pro headphones Shure SM7B microphone Solar power bank 😄
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been producing and editing music for about 6 years, and I’m currently studying Audio Engineering at HOFA College to deepen my knowledge of acoustics, mixing, and mastering. I’ve already worked on student productions, indie demos, and podcast edits, and I’m constantly improving my craft.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Modern, clean, individuell and emotional — I aim for a warm, detailed sound that connects instantly. My mixes are transparent but never sterile; they have space and energy.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always gain-stage before mixing. It’s not glamorous, but if your levels are balanced before adding any plugins, your mix will instantly sound cleaner and more professional.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly, Hip-Hop and RnB, sometimes Metal — music that has emotional vocals and rich textures. I also work on spoken-word and podcast projects where vocal clarity is key.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Attention to detail and balanced sound design. I have a good ear for subtle changes — knowing when to push frequencies and when to leave space. I also communicate well with artists, translating vague creative ideas into technical reality.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring clarity, energy, and emotion — helping the artist’s story shine through without over-processing. My goal is that people feel the mix, not just hear it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start with a short call or chat to understand the artist’s or client’s vision and reference sound. Then I organize the session, clean up the audio, and start building the mix — starting with gain staging, EQ and compression, then stereo imaging and reverb for depth. Finally, I master the track or podcast for consistent loudness and tonal balance, and deliver it with at least one revision included.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by FINNEAS, Tom Misch, and Kanye West — each of them has a unique way of blending emotion and sonic clarity. I love how FINNEAS creates space around vocals, how Tom Misch makes his mixes groove naturally, and how Kanye’s productions always tell a story through sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my clients come to me for mixing and polishing their music or podcasts. I specialize in turning raw recordings into balanced, professional-sounding mixes — cleaning vocals, adding warmth and depth, and making sure everything sounds clear and consistent on all devices.
