Hey, I'm Brent Urbn. I'm an artist myself & have over 10+ years worth of experience working in the music industry. Whether it's my vocal ranges that I tap into with layers of harmonies or it be my witty raps with different cadences that I create. I have an understanding of what creatives want to make & what people like to hear. My primary service is my singing, so if you need hooks, verses, background/demo vocals, a collaborator on lyrics/melodies or a full song crafted for you I'm your guy.

Interview with Brent Urbn
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Outside of doing features I do songwriting for artists as well as helping them (if I'm in a session with them) on how to get the best version of the song out. I've helped with mainly writing hooks, background vocals, making demo songs or helping them make full songs & personalizing it to their sound.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I did a song called "Terrific" for an artist buddy named Adrian Javon. He's a talented dude & to see his reaction after I gave him the feature was dope. I'm glad folks who heard that track enjoyed it.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Working on my first album but also an EP I'm dropping before that.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Currently, no I'm still new lol.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog because it captures everything. You hear the full detail in the sounds. Digital is still dope though.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I won't waste your time. You give me something good then I'll make it great and if you give me something great I''ll make it otherworldly. If you're coming to me I'm assuming it's because you're serious.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like the process.. matter of fact I love it. To go from head scratching because you don't know where to start to moments later figuring it out and making a dope song is an amazing feeling.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They ask me how do I create the things I come up with. I say it's just God letting me borrow some ideas.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that it's easy. Making music might be somewhat easy for me but it's because I've spent years working at it. Nonetheless, I use the word somewhat because it can still be challenging at times. You gotta love it though.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Are you ready to make people feel something?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: To make sure they send me something that they really believe in and not a beat or an idea that they're just Meh about. If you already believe in something it makes my job more fun & enjoyable to give you the result you want.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Everything I mentioned in my home setup but add an outlet and a phone charger lol.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Initially, I was playing basketball but I realized by 18-20 years old that music may be the path I need to go on. I've been seriously doing music for about 10 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: It's a blend of Rnb soulful yet alternative sound mixed with elements of hiphop.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Jon Bellion just because he gets it. From a songwriting perspective & just understanding the feel of music.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Understand your DAW as much as you can. Learn it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: R&B, Hiphop/Rap, and Pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Singing-songwriting would be my strongest skill.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring life. A feel that is going to be hard to replicate. I'm basically someone that when you work with you'll feel like the price was worth it for what I was able to help you create.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start with the hook/chorus because I look at it as the thesis to the song while verse(s) are basically body paragraphs.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a Neumann TLM-103 microphone with a Apollo Twin x interface, Krk speakers, M-Audio keyboard on a Mac laptop, and I use Logic Pro x as my DAW of choice.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: J.Cole, Kanye West, Pharrell, and Timbaland inspire me greatly.
