Interview with Dímelo Kleft ✪
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m proud of everything I do, but without a doubt, my biggest achievement to date has been working with Bryant Myers on the track 'Como Panas.' It was a major milestone for me, not only because of the collaboration itself, but also because it led to my first placement on his album Bendecido. This project gave me the opportunity to work with Entertainment One due to their involvement in the album, which was a significant milestone in my career.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now, I’m working as a beatmaker with Eccentric Sounds LLC, collaborating on various projects with well-known Latin artists. I’m focused on producing high-quality beats, refining my craft, and ensuring that every track I work on meets industry standards. Additionally, I’m working closely with Powerhouse, a company specializing in acquiring music catalogs from top artists, which keeps me at the forefront of trends and industry developments. I’m also continuously exploring new sounds and techniques to stay ahead of the curve in urban Latin music.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, I know and respect several talented professionals on SoundBetter, including producers and mixing engineers who specialize in Latin urban music. I’d recommend them to clients who are looking for specific skills outside my own expertise.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I work primarily in digital because it provides flexibility, precision, and efficiency. Plugins like Waves allow me to achieve a polished, professional sound. While analog can add character, digital tools give me the control I need to make tracks sound their best.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to deliver professional, high-quality music that reflects your unique style and vision. I focus on clear communication, attention to detail, and results that you can be proud of.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love helping artists bring their vision to life. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing a track evolve from an idea to a fully polished song that connects with listeners. Being part of that creative journey is what motivates me.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: “Can you make my track sound professional?” A: Absolutely. I focus on balance, clarity, and impact, ensuring that every element of the track works together and meets industry standards. Q: “How long will it take?” A: I provide realistic timelines based on the project’s complexity and make sure to communicate every step of the process.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: A common misconception is that you need expensive studios or huge setups to create professional music. In reality, skill, knowledge, and creativity are far more important than the size of your setup. I focus on getting the best possible sound using the tools I know inside out.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I typically ask clients about the style, mood, and overall vibe they envision for the track. Reference tracks are especially helpful for understanding the sound they're aiming for. I also ask about any specific elements they want to highlight, whether that’s a particular instrument, a catchy hook, or a certain energy in the mix. This ensures the project aligns perfectly with the artist’s vision and goals.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for a provider who understands your vision and can translate it into a professional, polished track. Communication is key, make sure you feel comfortable discussing ideas, references, and expectations. Check their previous work and listen for consistency and quality.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been working in music production since I'm 14 years old. My career started with producing beats, mix and mastering for emerging artists. Over time, I’ve had the opportunity to work with top latin artists like Bryant Myers, Almighty and others, which has helped me refine my craft and expand my skills.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is unique, dynamic and versatile. I like to create music that resonates emotionally with listeners, whether it’s a hard-hitting reggaeton beat or a smooth, atmospheric track. My focus is always on making sure the production feels polished but still authentic to the artist’s style.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with artists like Bad Bunny or J Balvin. They’re trailblazers in the latin music world and have a unique ability to blend genres. Collaborating with artists who push boundaries and are open to creative experimentation would be an amazing opportunity.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One key tip is to always focus on getting the right balance in your mix before adding any effects. A clean, well-balanced mix is the foundation of a great song. Pay close attention to how your kick and 808's interacts, this is where the punch of the track comes from. Even with basic tools, proper EQ and level management can make a huge difference.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily work on urban genres like reggaeton, trap, and latin music. However, I’m flexible and open to other styles, including hip hop, pop, RNB or any others.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my ability to make any track sound polished and professional, regardless of the resources available. I’ve honed my skills in FL Studio, and I’m an expert in mixing and mastering with Waves plugins. I focus on achieving the perfect balance in the mix, ensuring that every element of the track stands out without overpowering the others.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a blend of technical expertise and creativity. My focus is on creating a sonically balanced track that brings out the best in the artist’s performance. I make sure that every element of the song works cohesively, from the drums and bass to the vocals, to ensure that the final result is polished, impactful, and ready for any platform.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process starts by understanding the artist’s vision and the vibe they want for their track. I begin by crafting a custom beat in FL Studio, ensuring it fits perfectly with the artist’s style. Once the instrumental is in place, I move to mixing, where I focus on balance, clarity, and impact using Waves plugins. Finally, I deliver a polished master that ensures the track is ready for release. My goal is always to make sure the artist’s sound is fully realized.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work with a streamlined, high-quality setup that allows me to deliver professional results. My primary DAW is FL Studio, which I’ve mastered over the years to create custom beats and polished mixes. I use the Focusrite Scarlett 3rd Gen interface for reliable, transparent audio, and rely on industry-standard plugins like Waves to ensure every track sounds top-notch. While my studio setup may be compact, the quality of my work speaks for itself, and I always focus on achieving the best sound possible for my clients.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by producers like Tainy, Luny Tunes and Sky Rompiendo for their ability to fuse innovative beats with catchy melodies in Latin and urban music. I also admire the work of renowned engineers like Chris Lord-Alge and Manny Marroquin, who have mastered the art of mixing and making every track hit with impact.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in producing high-quality beats, mixing, and mastering for artists in various genres, with a focus on urban and Latin music. The most common work I do for my clients includes crafting custom beats, polishing their mixes to make sure they’re dynamic, and delivering a final master that’s ready for release. I work with both emerging artists and established ones and labels to help them achieve professional, standard quality-ready sound.
