Interview with Rafael La Torre

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My Portfolio is the answer.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: What projects do I not work on?*

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes! https://soundbetter.com/profiles/699768-rafael-la-torre

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, it doesn't take up space in the living room.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I don't need to make promises when I have results.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Having mixed for 3-6 hours and then, when you first export the song, it sounds excellent on any device. That's pure pleasure..

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How do I send you the project for mixing? A: I hope you have time for the best audio export lesson ever.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: In my social circle, they confuse me with the DJ, haha.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Your songs don't sound the way you expected, bro?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Work with me.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Audeze LCD-2C, do you think I need more?

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been dedicating myself to music every day for three years, without taking any breaks.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: An interestingly chameleon-like blend of Serban, Marroquin, and Gudwin.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with artists, musicians, and producers who are dedicated to creating songs as if there were no tomorrow.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Use K-System

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I don't have any preferences; I mix anything.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Taking care of my ears for over 20 years so that I could later make a living doing what I love: mixing.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I will contribute whatever is necessary.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Wake up, Eat, Mix, Sleep (Repeat).

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work remotely, using Audeze LCD-2C headphones (which sound amazing) and a Solid State Logic SSL 2+ that has everything I need, especially its high-performance AKM chips.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: My holy trinity is Serban Ghenea, John Hanes, and Alex Ghenea.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I mainly focus on mixing because I find it more interesting, as it allows me to contribute my vision of how the song should sound. I already have a signature sound that I like, where 50% is already defined and I spend the remaining 50% figuring out what needs to be done.
