Interview with Aleksandr
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of the projects I’m especially proud of was contributing to large-scale recording sessions for Show LAB with Anton Belyaev. My role involved audio engineering and technical support during complex production workflows. It was a valuable experience that strengthened both my technical skills and my understanding of musical production at a high professional level.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently I’m working on live audio productions, worship-related material, and developing mixing workflows inspired by both studio and large-scale live sound environments.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m always open to collaborating with talented professionals depending on the needs of the project. SoundBetter has many great musicians, producers, and mastering engineers.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital for flexibility, speed, and recallability — especially in modern workflows. But I still appreciate analog-style processing and the musical character it can bring to a mix
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Clear communication, honest feedback, attention to detail, and mixes that serve the song first.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love helping artists turn ideas and recordings into something emotionally powerful and meaningful. It’s incredibly rewarding to hear a song fully come together.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: One of the most common questions is: “Can you make my song sound professional?” My answer is always: a strong production starts with a strong performance and arrangement, but a good mix can absolutely elevate the emotional impact and overall quality of a track.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people think mixing is only about making things louder or cleaner. In reality, a good mix is about emotion, balance, depth, and helping the song communicate effectively.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask about references, artistic vision, deadlines, and what they want listeners to feel emotionally from the song. Understanding the goal of the project is extremely important to me.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who understands both the technical and emotional side of music. Communication, attention to detail, and understanding the artist’s vision are just as important as gear or plugins.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A reliable laptop, headphones, audio interface, a good microphone, and a power generator — because without electricity, none of the other gear matters.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started in live sound and event production, working on concerts, festivals, and large-scale productions. Over time, I expanded into studio work, mixing, editing, and recording projects. I’ve been working professionally in audio for several years and continue developing both technical and creative skills every day.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Clean, dynamic, emotional, and natural. I like mixes that feel powerful without becoming overly processed.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with artists and bands that care deeply about emotion, dynamics, and live performance energy. Projects that combine strong musicianship with authentic expression are always the most exciting to me.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: A great mix starts with arrangement and balance. Before reaching for heavy processing, make sure every element has its own space and purpose in the song.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Worship, contemporary Christian music, rock, jazz, hardcore, live recordings, and modern band productions. I’m especially comfortable with dynamic music that combines emotional vocals and powerful instrumentation.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is balancing technical precision with musical feel. My live sound background taught me how to make mixes translate well under real-world conditions while still keeping them emotional and impactful.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to bring clarity, emotion, and energy while respecting the artist’s original vision. My goal is not just to make a mix sound “big,” but to make the arrangement feel intentional and emotionally connected.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually start by organizing and cleaning the session, checking phase relationships, editing timing issues if needed, and building a solid balance first. After that, I focus on tone, dynamics, depth, and emotional impact. I always communicate closely with clients and provide revisions to make sure the final result matches their vision.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup is focused on efficient hybrid mixing and editing workflows. I work completely in-the-box with professional monitoring, industry-standard plugins, and a workflow heavily influenced by live sound engineering. My background in RF coordination and large-scale live productions also helps me approach mixes with strong technical precision and organization.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by engineers and producers who combine musicality with strong technical execution. I really appreciate the work of Andrew Scheps, Dave Rat, Chris Lord-Alge, and producers who focus on emotional impact and live energy. I also value the production approach of Anton Belyaev and the Show LAB team.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mainly work on mixing and editing for worship music, live multitrack recordings, and modern band productions. Most of my projects involve creating clean, emotional, and dynamic mixes that still feel natural and musical. I also enjoy working on rock, jazz, and hardcore material.
