Alex is an extremely talented producer. The songwriting, sax, vocals and production were all all totally on point...AND they were all done by Alex. We got a great result in the end. Pleasure working with you Alex!

I was absolutely happy to work with Alexey. First of all, he understands everything I am asking for, what I need and what I want, even though sometimes I had no idea how to explain. Second, his choices of the sounds made my track lighter and more fesh as it was before. My suggestion to work with him.

Alex and I actually cowrote Co-Pilot together for James Massone! We also worked together on a couple collabs between him and I as Exale & TEGA that went very well, and he's got a lot of great sounds for his tracks. You won't regret working with him

We'd been looking for our track original sound. The idea was to create a masterpiece. And we did! With Alex's help. He's a real professional able to listen to artists and live up to their hopes and expectations. If we get another chance to collaborate with him, we'll definitely do! Alex, best regards from SPb and thank you very much again and again!

It’s always so hard to find a real professional to share your stuff with. I had so many bad collaborations with producers until the day I met this guy. Make sure you have a good idea to show and he’ll do everything else. Can’t wait to work with him again!

Multi-talented producer who transcends just “hip-hop” music. Grateful to have worked together in the past

Interview with Exale Music Production

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: Ah, so many. It would be mainly vocalists that I admire. I would love to produce songs that would feature people like Gregory Porter, Brendan Reilly, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Sam Smith... These are the few that come to mind off the top of my head.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Some original songs. One of them I actually sang on which is a first for me. I am proud to say that I did absolutely everything on it. Songwriting, guitar, saxophone, bass guitar, voice, production and mixing. I am making one song for a client from Russia right now. A kind of theatrical rock song.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: So far I am most proud of my single Co-Pilot with vocalist James Massone. It has garnered more than 500K streams on Spotify and over 800K views on YouTube.

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Yes. Yan Perchuk. He is an amazing producer/mixing engineer. Krysta Youngs is a great singer and songwriter.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: So far it's been mostly digital with me. As far as mixing, there's no reason nowadays to mix using analog. I am perfectly happy mixing in the box as do a lot of top engineers nowadays. But I want to explore the analog world of synths and effect pedals more.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: I promise to give my best and deliver the best possible product that I am capable of in that stage of my development.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I started as a saxophone player. Went to Berklee College of Music. Thought I wanted to be a jazz sax player. Then got interested in production. Started making hiphop music. Then after hearing the music of Zedd around end of 2012 got inspired to make "electronic" music.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: Funky. Good chords, harmonies, melodies.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Electronic

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: Arranging

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I bring my arranging skills. My groove, funky feeling. I've been a fan and player of funk music for a long time. So I feel like I have a good rhythm feel to my tracks. I sculpt a song to make it into one solid statement that tells a story in 3.5 or so minutes.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: Depends what I'm working with. If it's just a vocal line. I'll come up with chord changes around it and build the rest from there. If I am given a rough template of a song, then I work on "beefing" it up with better, tastier sounds and good mixing.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: 2 Apple computers. UAD Apollo Twin, KRK Rokit 6 monitors, 2 pairs of studio headphones, bass guitars, acoustic and electric guitars, alto saxophone, keys, Aston Spirit microphone, Rode NT1-A microphone.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: So many. Galimatias, Zedd, DJ Snake, Disclosure, Marcus Miller, Flying Lotus, Lenno, Madeon, Porter Robinson, Ametsub, KRANE, Medasin... The list goes on and on.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Producing and/or mixing a song (I don't master yet). Making the beat, sometimes recording vocals. Getting the best performance out of the vocalist and selecting the perfect takes for the perfect track. Other times working with recorded vocals. Seeing it through to completion.

  31. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  32. A: laptop, microphone, audio interface, headphones, saxophone

  33. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  34. A: I love creating something that wasn't there before. The biggest thrill is to create a song and see it through to completion and be able to say "I made that". I love my music is being listened to and is being enjoyed by total strangers in different parts of the world. By making music I am making my mark on this Earth.

  35. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  36. A: What is their vision for the song? Ask for reference tracks in the style that they're going for.
