I have been discovering unique drumsounds for a long time now, and I have been fortunate enough to call my passion my career. I love finding just the right sound and groove and capturing the best take for the song. In my studio I search for the best sound for your song. Mostly I focus on pop and hip-hop records and record drum tracks at my facility in Berlin, Germany. It's a big room, acoustically treated and features API and Neve style preamps and industry standard microphones.

Interview with Alex Hoeffken
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love to be creative and capture the best performance.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When do you need the tracks? Which vibe and sounds do you have in mind?
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm heavily influenced by great groove drummers like Steve Jordan, Steve Gadd etc. I focus primarily on feel, groove, and energy. Drumsound is VERY important to me and I try to achieve the best sound for the song by choosing from a wide variety of drums, percussion, weird sounds etc. I also run things through guitar pedals to deliver a unique sound.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I get a demo song and ask the client about what they want to add to the song. I make suggestions for grooves, sounds and patterns or simply replace the programming.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Logic Pro X in Combination with Universal Audio Apollo (Quad & 16) and several Heritage Audio, API, Avedis Audio, Universal Audio and other preamps im combination with Neumann, Coles, AKG, Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic Mics to capture the perfect sound.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: A great mix of both is the best way.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You'll get great sounding tracks and a musical approach.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Hip Hop, Soul and some Rock.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: A solid groove and creative sounds.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Unique drum sounds, a lively energy and creative input.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of the time I replace programmed drumming with live drums, programm a beat and add percussion to it or to a drum track I did.
