I am a musician/songwriter first, THEN a producer. If the production work on a song doesn't compliment the song itself and make it better, then it isn't good production. I put the songwriting and arranging above all else and make my production decisions based off what will compliment the song best, rather than what new cool synth I want to try.

Projects done at your house or your friends house are great. You've save some money and taken time to get every note correct. Now, does the base pan to the left or right?
