Since mastering is about the presentation, it is subjective, yet still requires an objective perspective of the music. There are as many opinions about how mastering is needed and used as there are engineers. Music is art. And art is not a competition.
I like to mix. I'm the head of A&R for well known jazz label. I recently did some remixes for Jeffrey Osborne, and have been wanting to mix more projects. I've also been a Recording Academy governor for four years, and have been singing and songwriting for my own band the last 15 years.
