The MPL is a full-scale music production studio at the heart of Toronto’s bustling music scene. We specialize in radio-ready mixing and mastering. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we now offer remote production assistance and reduced pricing. Stay inside and let us put the finishing touches on your music.
The studio consists of a curated hybrid collection of high-end analog and digital equipment in an acoustically fine-tuned environment, operated by seasoned pro engineers and producers.
COVID-19 measures:
- In order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we now offer remote attendance for mix sessions. Watch and listen to the work being done on your music from your home in real time.
- We now offer remote recording and production guidance. If you have recording equipment but aren’t too sure how to use it, an engineer can remotely help by walking you through the process of recording at home.
- All prices are reduced by 15% for the duration of the COVID-19 crisis.

The piano tracks for this song were so beautiful and well done.
Thank you so much!!!! - check_circleVerified
Mat was a pleasure to work with! I got back a super clean mix and he also taught me a few things about mastering for streaming platforms. He took me on a high quality stream so I could listen to what he was doing in real time. Really appreciate everything you did!

Mat and The-MPL deserve top star review from my end. They are very competent and professional, and the sonic level of the mix and master they are able to produce is of the highest quality. I've been really positively surprised on how they are also able to bring out the very possible best out of some raw tracks. Definitely Mat is the sound engineer of my first choice on SoundBetter.

Just finished a song with Mat. He did a wonderful job composing, producing, and engineering on a challenging job request. He even brought in great people to collaborate with. Well done.

Pros:
- Excellent mixes and masters
- Good communication
- Great electronic drum enhancement technique
Cons:
- Unrespected delivery date (2 months over)
- Although the proposal didn't include producing, a little more
initiative would have been appreciated
- Important and unequal delays between mixes deliveries - check_circleVerified
Mat is a true professional and a pleasure to work with. He is a skilled producer, engineer, and drummer who works hard and does not hesitate to go the extra mile. Throughout the entire process he was prompt, accommodating, and flexible with regards to feedback. Highly recommended!

Mat is a great guy whose also incredibly professional. He was super open to feedback and applied all the adjustments I asked for perfectly. He made me feel very comfortable and was extremely reassuring at every step of the way. I highly recommend him to anyone that is looking for a great engineer with a great work ethic and attitude.

My previous experience with mastering Engineers did not meet my expectations, so thank goodness I found Mat on soundbetter.com ... one project now completed together, and I'm already getting the response time, level of professionalism, and mastering quality for which I had hoped. Looking forward to future projects with Mat!
Mat has a professional approach and an eye for detail. If you're looking for someone to put special care into your project, look no further. He has mixed and mastered many of my tracks and I have zero complaints!
Keselman has some of the hardest-working freelance chops I know. From mixing, recording engineering, mastering to performing as a session drummer, he is consistently focused on aural clarity, precise editing, realistic imaging and natural dynamics. With Mat, a good source is essential - it's never enough to "fix it in the mix."
Mat is detailed in the end-to-end process of creating great music. I've had the opportunity to work with Mat in many projects and highly recommend his services.
Mat is definitely the guy to hire for any production, mixing and/or mastering. He is absolutely dedicated to getting you the BEST sound. There are so many tricks of this trade and for being so young, you'd be surprised with how much this guy knows. I always trust Mat to help me with ANY aspect of music production!
Interview with The-MPL
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: For mixes and masters I usually work out of my own facility in Toronto. Universal Audio and Focusrite pre amps and I/O with Dynaudio and Auratone monitors. I work on a Mac running Pro Tools 12 with UAD, McDSP, Slate Digital, Waves, and Brainworx plugins to name a few. A large selection of virtual instruments are also available in-house. The studio is also equipped with Gibson, Fender, and Gretch guitars, Pearl and Yamaha acoustic drum sets and a Yamaha DTX 950 electric drum kit for drum programming and performing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Steven Wilson, Imogen Heap, Michael Brauer, Dave Pensado, Timbaland, The Mars Volta, Andy Wallace, Daft Punk, Nero, this could be a very long list.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I've got two: 1) I will give you world-class results. 2) I am not happy until you are happy.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That there are magic devices that can fix bad performances at the touch of a button. Engineers can help to an extent, but it's almost all done by hand, and they can only do a little bit to push an already great performance.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Communicate what you want and need. If you are unsure of what you want and need, just let me know and I will help you figure it out.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I serve the song before I serve my style. So I can't really say "big punchy drums" because that isn't always true. My style is making things feel right.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Present or past? Imogen Heap, Pure Reason Revolution, The Beatles, Porcupine Tree, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Opeth, Tool. I love what these artists do / did and think I can help push things even further in those directions.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The ear and brain are very subjective. Make sure to rely on your first instincts and feelings. If something didn't sound right at first but on a 3rd listen it seems fine, it's probably not fine.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, pop, electronic, world, hip hop. Most contemporary genres.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: In addition to Engineering and Production, I am also a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer, lyricist, and arranger. These skills help me see the song and mix from a different, more personal perspective and deliver unique results.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I most commonly mix, produce, and play / record / program drums for both local and remote clients.
