I have a wealth of experience working with indie pop, pop, rock and EDM artists in a variety of roles. I've written and produced songs with successful artists and brands all over the world, and received acclaim for my own music.

I'm always interested in working closely with artists to ensure their vision is achieved to the highest possible standard.

In 2018 I achieved an M.A. in Sound Design for Film and Television, and I've written, produced, mixed and mastered music, and created sound effects for a number of high profile, internationally renowned children's media brands.

Interview with Sam Ray

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: There's a huge list, but I love the variety of sounds of the 80s brought into the world. My first love was pop-punk, but I'm a big fan of pop, synth-pop, rock and indie, and a bunch of other genres. In terms of current inspirations... The 1975, LANY, Carly Rae Jepsen, Taylor Swift, Angels & Airwaves, Death Cab for Cutie, Post Malone, Dua Lipa, Pale Waves, and many more, are frequent influences on my production and writing.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Currently working at my home studio with Logic Pro X, Pro Tools 12, Waves, Steven Slate, FabFilter, Kontakt Library and a bunch of other software. Hardware wise I'm currently running a 2018 iMac with an Apollo Twink Quad an SE Electronics z3300a, a Shure SM57 Beta, a Blue Spark, a Audio Technica AT2020, a Rhode NT1A, plus multiple guitars and amps.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I love to ask for references when people are looking for a song or a production. It's really great to know you're on the same wavelength as an artist and that you're both pulling the same direction.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure that the person you're hiring is passionate about making your music great - that's the most important thing!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm a very melodic songwriter, and I love lyrics with character, quirk and emotion.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Song and arrangement are King and Queen.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a lot of work production, mixing, songwriting, and top lining, and generally help artists to develop their style during the production process. I also often engineer, record and mix pop/rock/indie bands too.
