I bring sound to your songs! As a versatile producer and songwriter, I'm (32, The Netherlands) always eager for a fresh approach to pop music. Guided by my background as a keyboard player in bands, I know how to work a proper song. I have written and produced for international artists on Universal Music, Sony Music, Armada, Spinnin’.

Interview with Sjoerd de Vries

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The project is called BRÅVO and it is my own artist-project. I release songs that I write with very talented singers, every track is another collab. I like the way I can just do my own thing.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working on an EP for a very talented singer, co-producing for a deep house DJ/producer
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, but mostly digital because of the workflow and the ability to take everything with you.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That they will get a better/more exciting sounding song
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That it's also the thing I love doing most
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can I pay in rights in stead of money :-) My answer is usually no...
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That you don't need to have any real musical skills.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's the purpose of the production, what's the audience you're aiming for. That tells me a lot about which direction to go.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure to find someone who treats your music with love and care.

A: - a laptop - apollo interface - my good-old Juno 6 - a guitar - a mic
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I studied piano at the Rotterdam Conservatory, after that I played in bands and worked in studios. Did a lot of studio sessions as a session keyboard-player and worked on all kinds of projects as a music producer.

A: Khalid, because of the sound of his voice

A: Make sure your arrangement fits the vocal

A: (Electronic) Pop, EDM, deep house
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I like to work with songs, I'm very good with structures and hooks
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to bring fresh sounds and add some flavor to make the song work great and stand out.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When I get your files I will usually make a version that I think could work really well. After we discuss this version I will work this out to a release-ready track.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run Logic Pro X on my iMac and MacBook Pro. Apollo audio interfaces, all kinds of synthesizers/electric pianos, loads of software synthesizers and sample libraries. AKG, Blue, Shure and Røde Mics.

A: Ryan Tedder, Benny Blanco, Max Martin

A: Producing tracks, I get a vocal recording and produce the music around it.
