Interview with HILL
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: You can find an example of a song called "Monster" on my samples. This is a track produced by an amazing artist based in NYC called Peter Mark Kendall. We was working together and I was the mixing and mastering engineer. Super great song with lots of original elements and very deep. Love it.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm in the game since 2010, I started producing songs by myself with a super basic gear, then I was graduated from the London School of Sound and I've worked as assistant audio engineer at the Dairy Studios in Brixton (London) with clients like Florence and the Machine, Mabel, Tom Misch, Raye, Jess Glynne, Snakehips, Jessie Ware and many more.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Organic, warm and full of bass, original, I love a little bit of dirty and authenticity in the tracks that I make.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Creativity and originality. I love experiment, go one step forward, I love be unique, trying to create my signature sound. I love to give mojo and vibe to my clients music.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First of all I listen the track, with a fresh ears, trying to understand which kind of feeling the artist wants to explain and how I can help to achieve it. Second, I spend a lot of time listening some references privided by the artist, then some minutes cleaning the project and making little tweaks on the volume and panning to get a great balance between the tracks. During the next step the magic starts.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Industry standard gear all working and waiting for your music. Including Apogee Converters, Studer Tape machine for mastering, Yamaha NS-10M studio monitors, Neve Preamps, SSL EQ and Bus Compressor, Pulltec Emulation Tube EQ and all kind of top-grade digital tools.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My favorite mixers in the game are Jaycen Joshua, Chad Blake, Dave Pensado and Tony Maserati. I'm feeling really inspired by artists like Kendrick Lamar, Bon Iver, Thom Yorke, James Blake and Tame Impala.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: There are awesome engineers and producers that I've recently meet and they are super talented. I always recommend professionals from SoundBetter. Is an excellent hub to meet creative people.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Write me a message, don't hesitate on this. Let's talk and see what we can do with your music. Can't wait to start to work! Your music will be ready to hit the world with the best results.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Hip-Hop and Electronica, recently a lot of R'n'B, trap and huge variety of Urban Music Style.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm mixing and mastering a project of a Indie-Rock Band from Peru, also mixing couple of Trap and Soul Projects.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, Ableton Live and ProTools, Sennheiser headphones, Neumann mic, UAD interface. Easy to use in a desert island, good results and easy to pack :).
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Hybrid is the formula that I'm using right now, the one that gives me the better results for the recalling of the digital and the awesome sound of the analog. I always run the tracks of my clients through hardware, for the warmth and the workflow.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Top Chart Results and 100% satisfaction guarantee. I'll do my best.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more, always.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm a communicator and a Good Vibes maker. I think that the relationship with the client is one of the most important things. Also I'm a musician, so it's really easy for me understand the artist side.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: If I'm available to work right now. Of course! I'm always available and ready to work hard. I love my job and I'm really grateful about it.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: The mood of the song and the inner meaning. Is crucial to me understand this two factors.
