Jean-Michel Lapointe on SoundBetter

A highly creative music producer from Canada, now based in L.A. I have 25 years of experience making music for top labels(Sony, Universal, Warner). My music style is rooted in deep house, disco, and funk. The highest sound quality and composition in my standards are paramount. Lets team up to bring your music to the NEXT LEVEL!

Born in Montreal, Canada, graduating from Trebas Institute of Recording Arts. Upon graduation I moved to Quebec City to share my passion with my mentor, Dan Coulombe(B-52’s, Robert Palmer, Indochine and many others). In 2002 I began to produce music for myself and other artists by opening my first studio in Montreal. Shortly after I met Nic B., a talented local DJ and teamed up to create my first house music project “The Couch Potatoes” which had a huge instant success in the electro/dance international scene. After a number of successful vinyl’s/albums and live acts, I was personally invited by Guy Laliberté, CEO of Cirque du Soleil to be the main music act for all his special events around the world. Concurrently, I began to produce and remix many major Canadian artists such as Celine Deion, Sarah McLachlan, Stefie Shock, Corneille, Dubmatique, Mitsou and others. In 2012, I decided to move to Los Angeles with all of my gear, exploring new avenues and finally opening my current recording studio Owl Foot Ranch.

My main music production style is a blend of Disco and Funky moods with a futuristic approach. Whether producing or engineering I bring a level of focus, patience, composition and sound standards. Artists can expect a timely, high quality product that satisfies everyone in the production process. If you share the same passion for music lets make a hit!

Jean-Michel Lapointe is an outstanding producer. He loves music so much; his knowledge of different artists, genres, writers and producers from so many eras and decades makes him a rare musical resource. Jean-Michel is as easy to work with as he is easy to talk to. He's personal and he's professional, punctual and considerate. I've had a great experience working with JM and his team in Owl Foot Ranch, the time and energy used to make our records shine are well worth the costs. I highly recommenced Jean-Michel for your producer, arranger or mixer as he's the right choice for your music.

I've been making music with Jean-Michel for several years and he keeps amazing me with his talent and versatility not only as a producer/engineer but as a musician as well. He has golden ears! JM is also a very generous person and will always go the extra mile to make sure you're happy with the results. Owl Foot Ranch is one of the most inspiring studios I've had the chance to record at, with top of the line gear. And be sure Jean-Michel will make you feel comfortable so you can focus on your music knowing everyting else is taken care of, and in good hands. Don't hesitate, book now!!

JM is absolutely fantastic! Phenomenal engineer and producer, who's incredibly knowledgeable and talented. I've been working with him for awhile, now, and he's since become a dear friend. I'm so happy with the recordings and I would recomend Owl Foot Ranch to anybody, and have done so on many occasions! You will not be disappointed.

My band has been working on three songs with Jean-Michel, and we're thrilled to be working with him. We met with JM at least three times before we started recording and we loved his energy, his passion for music and his technical knowledge. The recording process was a dream. It was definitely the best time I've ever had recording vocals. And I hate recording vocals :) The studio itself is comfortable, relaxing, chic and overall a gorgeous place to work. I honestly can't recommend JM highly enough.

Jean-Michel is one of a kind. To me, the most impressive aspect of his talent is his versatility. His knowledge of music is so vast, he can produce almost any style of music - and he has. He has a taste for the finer things in life (as you might one day have the privilege of experiencing if he cooks for you). Fine food, fine wine and the same goes for his music. He is a man of great taste, no matter what he's doing. He only produces music at a high level and his sound is always authentic. Above all that, his mixing skills never cease to amaze me and his studio is HEAVEN ON EARTH!

I have been an manager of musicians and artists for many years now. I know when I work with Jean-Michel I can expect effective listening to understand what myself and the artists are looking for. The result is fire beats, top-notch production value and the best out of the artists potential. He helps stretch their limitations in the most patient way to attain the perfect track. Outside of the music JM is a great person with an awesome sense of humor and work ethic making long days easy! If you want great music, bet that it's one click away with JM!

Jean Michel is fantastic to work with. He was the perfect guide to bring songs I've been incubating for a long time to life. He clearly loves the process and he brings a phenomenal ear for what a song "wants" to bring it to it's full potential. JM knows how to guide without stifling or pushing. Love working with him and am looking forward to doing it again.

    Jean-Michel is a true TALENT!
I often hire him to create soundtracks for my commercials, records VO and ADR or to master the finish track before broadcast.
JM is always professional, open and honest with me about his opinions to enhance my work while listening to my feedback. He never disappoints in turning my concepts for what I need into something I didn't even imagine it could sound like. He is my go to producer for all things music and sound. Work with him and I guarantee he will be yours as well!
