I engaged Emily to do vocals to my song. I didn't know what to expect nor what to request. That wasn't a problem as Emily listened to the song and gave exactly what was needed. Her communications were friendly and to the point and she delivered an amazing result first go. Highly, highly recommended!!

Interview with Emily H.- Singer/Songwriter
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I was proud of my sound a like project for Maren Morris "The Bones" People have said we have similar voices and I felt I did a semi close replica!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A minor/spooky cover of a VERY major song lol
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Jenny G does amazing work!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital with an analog gloss ;)
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will do everything I can to deliver the best product to them.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love music and I love when I can make an income making it!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Slight revisions if needed, and I am always receptive and accommodating.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it is easy. Singing comes very naturally to me but it is still work (albeit FUN work) to make sure you are getting the client's vision down correctly
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What sort of time line are they on? Details about their project
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be as detailed as possible! Sometimes, you may like the artist's voice but your song style isn't in their comfort zone and just isn't a great fit. Please be patient and understand that we want to deliver the best possible product to you, it may take a few turn arounds :)
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Still amassing my gear collection! Definitely guitars, I would love a nice nylon string with me. A small amp and my fender strat... A mic and small PA
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been writing songs for almost 20 years now, recording and working on production skills. I have three artist projects I am currently working on with impending releases, and I often am in sessions for sync/ artist placements.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Rock and soul tinged versatile vocalist with a strong sense of melody and song form.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I feel like Harry Styles and I could write some cool material. I also love Martin Johnson's work aka "The Night Game" He is brilliant songwriter/singer/producer with such a unique style.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Make sure you start with a tempo!!! Otherwise, you're just playing catch up to make sure everything lines up for timing.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Generally pop/rock/jazz/country. Usually female vocal, acoustic guitar.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Melody and vocal harmonies/ arrangment.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My strength lies in melody and I can create ones that will help make the song memorable as well as unique. I have a comprehensive education in music and I use my knowledge to write "outside the box" so to speak.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by building a track, adding instrumental elements and usually tackle vocals first. If I am hired for a custom and personalized song, I take the information given and start on guitar or piano to shape the song before building the track.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a home studio with my vocal booth with two condenser mics, full 88 key weighted keyboard, multiple guitars ( acoustic and electric), bass, midi keyboard, and violin.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Greg Kurstin is my dream producer. I love Aaron Dressner's work on "Folklore" by Taylor Swift. Taylor is one of my favorite writers as well. I love Tori Kelly as a vocalist, I think she's in another league. The Night Game aka Martin Johnson is genius
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Recently I have been commissioned for a lot of personal songs clients have hired for me to write for their loved ones, significant others, or children. They send me details for the lyrics and general song style and send me to work!
