Based in Spain, Bernd Voss is one of the most versatile guitarists in studios and on stages across Europe. Leaving his native Germany, he went to LA to broaden his horizons and dove into West Coast music. Influenced by Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, and David Gilmour, he forged his own style. He recorded and toured with international artists Umberto Tozzi, Bonnie Tyler, Dionne Warwick, and NSYNC. With a blend of Pop, Folk, Americana, New Age, Latin, and Flamenco elements, Bernd creates atmospheric and cinematic guitar instrumentals.

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: John Mayer. he´s so classy

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: go to my homepage and listen to what i have done and if it fits with your needs.

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, Mac Book pro, Soundcard, headphones

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I started recording when i was 17 at the public radio in my hometown Bremen/ Germany ( 40 years ago). It was everybody recording together than, all analog. Things have changed along the way. I have toured and recorded with a lot of international top artists all over the world. Now i don´t tour anymore. Just recording, mainly online in my own studio.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: Classic Pop Rock with a Latin touch.

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: My first solo album "Cravings" recorded in LA in the 90s with Carlos Vega, Lenny Castro and Jimmy Johnson. It still sounds great after 25 years

  13. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  14. A: a country album for Australia, a Flamenco album in Spain and an acoustic guitar album for a licensing library

  15. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  16. A: both Digital because it´s so convenient and analog because i love the sound of tube guitar amps.

  17. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  18. A: I´ll do my best to help you fulfill your dream.

  19. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  20. A: the satisfaction when a song is done and the result is great

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: where do yourself as an artist and where does that song or album fit in? Do you have any concrete ideas or do you prefer that i come up with ideas?

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: It´s all about the song, not about you

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: Pop, singer songwriter, Latin

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: Experience from having recorded 100s of tracks. Getting great sounds fast. Timing.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: An open mind for ideas, the wish to make the client happy and successful.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: I get a reference, listen to it and than talk with the clients about possible parts. Than we start the session with a video conference sending mp3s of ideas. As soon as we have everything clear I record the definite tracks.

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: I have about 20-30 guitars. My main amps are Vox AC 30 from 1966, Laney Lionheart, Marshall JCM and Fender Twin Reverb. I am using Neumann Microfones and Neve preamps mainly. I also like to work with digital simulations. They don´t sound the same but sometimes they fit better into a song and that´s fine for me.
