Adam responded to my messages very quickly and was super receptive to what my vision for the track was. He also live streamed the song with me so we were able to work on tweaks together and drive the song to where it needed to be. The final product is great!

Interview with Adam "Carde Blanche" Smith
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Definitely! A couple of my good friends are on here. Love the community
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I mixed a song called “ravens n bats” for an artist called Ja¥en x District. I produced, mixed and mastered it and I’m so proud of it because I had almost a dozen people message me saying that song got them through a really dark time and made them feel good. That friends, is why I do this.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Just wrapped up 2 songs getting placed on EDM/Trap channels on YouTube, finishing an alt-R&B album and mixing a single for a Major artist set to drop on the new year.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. That’s what all the cool kids are doing.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will stop at nothing until your vision becomes reality.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love seeing artists fans listening to a song that I’ve mixed or mastered and just loving it. That’s what keeps me going everyday.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “What do you think of the record?” Answer always varies but I always try to provide any feedback that I think could benefit the song.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That templates are what make you good and there’s one plugin that makes you good.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: How many songs are you looking to get done? What’s your deadline? What are some records you really like right now? Who are your influences?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Give us as MUCH detail about your song as possible. Any engineer worth their weight makes your project their baby just as much as it is yours.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My computer, my Apollo, a U87 mic, my NS10’s and my moms home made lasagna.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: A lot of coffee. I started recording and mixing when I was 16, been doing it professionally for about 6-7? So around 13 years total.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Dark and moody that gets you in your feels.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Post Malone. Just seems like such a genuine guy. I think it would be fun!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If it feels good, it is good.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mainly dark/alt R&B and alt-pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Eating ice cream.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Ear candy. I love creating moments in a song that really let the audience connect with it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First I go through the record, clean up any unwanted noise, fix pitch or timing issues, and organize the session. Then I listen to the record top to bottom to get a feel of where it is and where it needs to go. Once I have a vision I will start balancing out the sounds and driving it to a finalized polished product.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I monitor through Genelec 8030c’s, NS10’s and an Avantone Mixcube. Gear wise I mostly work in the box but have an Avalon 737, Manley Massive Passive, 2 Distressors and an LA2A at my disposal.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My biggest inspirations are Jaycen Joshua, MixedByAli and Dave Pensado.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mainly clients will send me their vocal stems, along with either a 2-track beat (wav or mp3) or sometimes trackouts. I’ll then balance everything out and polish it so it sounds radio ready!
