Tony was FANTASTIC to work with and his work is superb! The energy & modern edge he brought to the production of my dance-pop song exceeded my expectations. Tony is also extremely professional, polite and a wonderful communicator. He gave me a very speedy turnaround, which was greatly appreciated. I felt like my song was a priority for him, and that meant a lot!
Tony is a wonderful addition to the SoundBetter team. I’m so grateful I was able to work w/ him and look forward to doing so again!

Just wrapped a sick collab with Tony for a huge sync licensing project. It's so refreshing working with talent of this caliber who already understands how to marry top 40 hit song production with what works for sync licensing. Talent aside, I am so impressed with how reliable Tony is. I feel like projects are zero stress and 100% vibes and highly inspiring knowing I can count on him to nail it. Very excited for this new connection! This is the guy!!!!

Worked with Tony on a couple of tracks and hopefully will be working with him again soon. He puts in the work to understand the brief and makes sure he captures the sound to perfectly match it. He has original, imaginative ideas that he shares, but is also great at listening to any inputs you have and open to trying things out. He is very efficient, and before you know it, the idea has come to life!
On top of all of this, he is a top bloke - which makes the whole process so much better. He is welcoming and easy to get along with, and has patience of a saint.
Put him at the top of your list.

Interview with Tony Brown Producer

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Could never answer this, I can't live without either!

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I will serve your song and your vision and create something you will want to stick on repeat!

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: Building great connections with my clients and collaborators, I have such a great network of people I have met though producing music, so many talented and professional individuals who I know I can hit-up to work on and idea or project.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Take that first step, a good producer is there to serve you and your song and help bring it to life! Stay true to your vision but also be open to outside the box ideas, sometime taking on a producers ideas is a little out of your comfort zone but try it on for size it could be the difference between a great track and a phenomenal one.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: Macbook Phone (For Voice Notes & a Hotspot... hopefully) Guitar Mic (Surely a cable is part of the bundle) Interface

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I have always been involved in music from a young age and have gigged and toured with various bands which was a blast but I fell in love with songwriting and production in my teens and haven't looked back, I have been producing on a professional level as my full-time career for around 5 years.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Dynamic and Impactful, I like to make sure that all the tracks I work on lift and come to life in the right places and just give people a good energy regardless of the style.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: I'd love to work with Bon Iver, there's something about their music that resonates with me and I would love to pick Justin Vernon's brains on some of the soundscapes he creates.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: If it feels right then go with it, don't overthink the details just enjoy the process!

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: I actually pride myself in taking on ew styles of music that I haven't worked in on a regular basis, because I do a lot of work in the Sync side of the industry I am always given such a variety of briefs and I LOVE that one week I could be working on a Indie-Pop album and the next it could be Cinematic Hip-Hop.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: I feel like I am very good under pressure and can come up with strong and fresh ideas very quickly, I like making fast decisions and moving a production along at a fun and fast pace, I find this approach to be really enjoyable rather than over-thinking and getting caught up in the details... That comes later.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I believe that I bring fresh inspiration to a song and inspire new creative directions though outside the box production ideas.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: I like to really immerse myself in a clients direction and vision before even opening a project up, this could start from a simple conversation about influences which normally develops into creating a playlist of track my clients really loves and from that I will pretty much listen non-stop to really absorb the vibe, 90% of the time I'm inspired within 10 minutes and have Fresh ideas coming thick and fast. After I'm in that zone I normally create a V1 demo in a few hours which I will send through to my artists/clients to bounce ideas off. I like using WhatsApp to keep up-to-date on project progress and collab on the fly, I'm a prolific voice-note person and always like to put across my thoughts and ideas that way during the project duration. Once we have reached a stage we like its on the perfecting the production and mix (which doesn't take too long as I like to mix along the way) and then finally if needed a master to make sure the track is hitting right and sounding its best.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I have a pretty streamlined and simple studio set-up with all the instruments I could need to hand; Drums, Guitar, Bass, Keys & Synth are all ready to go at a moments notice running through my SSL Interface ready for when inspiration strikes. My recording chain is generally my Warm Audio WA-47 (Great on vocals and instruments alike) into my Neve Pre and then from there I have a really clean and warm signal ready to process and mix in Logic Pro X, I am very confident capturing the sounds I need at source and then like to do tweaks and processing in the box as my workflow is fast and very organic so I'd rather capture the moment and then think about sculpting sound after the magic happens.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: I have a huge list of music which inspires me and I am always on the look out for new and fresh inspiration to add fuel to my fire, Im a huge believer in the idea that I'll never stop learning and taking new ideas on board. In my studio sessions I would say the first 30 mins to 1 hour centres around this question as I think it's a great way to know my client's vision better and build a professional relationship.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: As a producer I actively work with both independent artists and major label artists to really bring their vision to life and help them discover their identity through my productions. In addition to this I write and produce a huge amount of tracks for Brands, TV and advertising which is really fun and helps me hone my craft.
