Making music is about communication and the way I mix and produce songs is focused on make shine that message and its emotions. I love to talk a lot with the people I'm working with because that keeps me close to the message and makes the best for my clients.

My name is Giovany Gonzalez an audio engineer based in Bogotá, Colombia.
I work mainly as a mixing engineer and producer with 6 years of experience in making music. I'm focused in the mix and production stage of musical projects and can work remotely with no problem. I always keep close to my clients to know them and understand their projects and their approach with their music.

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Digital, because is very easy to do a recall on a session.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: The opportunity of enjoy while I'm working and helping other to get their ideas done.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: That the mixing process is something magic and that only can be made with specific pieces of gear.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: I ask for references, goals, examples of what they want and I like to ask about things that in the past the didn't like of previous mixes or songs they made.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: To be sure of what kind of sound or song is what they want, how should sound and have a clear idea about it

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: Roland SP404 MKII, a laptop, a condenser microphone, good pair of headphones and a trackball

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I've been working on music the past 10 years, initially on live sound and then the past 7 years I've been on the music production field, first on recording, some years later I began to produce music including mixing and that's what I do today

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: My style of mixing is very flexible and creative. I like to do new things all the time and give new ideas to a production to improve the final product

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: I'd love to work with Jungle, the records that they make are simply awesome and I'd feel very proud of being part of that great songs

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Using LPF and automation on it will give movement to some elements

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Pop, Hip hop, Indie, Alternative rock and Latin

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: The communication with the people that I'm working with.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I like to give clarity, energy, punch and creativity to a mix so for me is very important to automate many things across the duration of the song understanding every section to enhance the message and emotion in every song

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: First of all I talk with my clients about the approach and the goals that have with their song, after revewing some references and the raw mix I start organizing my session on the DAW, after that I start with general mixing (levels, panning) once I have a reasonable balance I like to start with processing tracks with anything needed like EQ, compression, gate, etc to give the flavour we are looking for, then I like to add a creative perspective to the mix with automation and effects as well, finally I send to the client to start the revisions with them

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: I work totally in the box, using Pro Tools and LUNA as my main DAWs, my AD/DA conversion relies on my Universal Audio Apollo Twin and my monitoring system on my pair of Tannoy Reveal 502 and my Audiotechnica ATH-M40x headphones. In terms of plugins I work with UAD, Pugin Alliance, Waves, Valhalla and Izotope bundles just for name a few

  32. A: Andrew Scheps, Josh Gudwin, Eduardo Cabra, Rich Costey, Tchad Blake, Tom Elmhirst, Mark Ronson, Eduardo Bergallo, Francisco Castro

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: I work on mixing for my clients mainly in genres like pop, hip hop and rock
