Interview with Mac Tire

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: In Italy be a sound designer and composer isn't consider by most people a real work. So I work hard everyday to prove to society that this misconception is wrong and that the work as a sound designer and composer is real and needs to be respected in the right way.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What is your idea? What is your goal? What is the story behind this song that you wrote? What emotions and feelings do you want to share with this production?

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Talk to me. The more I know about your work and what you want to achieve, the better I can work to complete the task requested by you.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: I would love to work with FKA Twigs. Her way to compose music and her decisions about the timbres inside her works fascinate me more and more everyday.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Everything is possible if the ideas are clear and the vibes are good!

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I started playing guitar when I was 14, from there I started studying music and playing live in Palermo. At 19 I earned a national diploma in Music Performance and then I moved to Siena. There I kept studying music and in 2019 I earned a bachelor of arts in Music Performance. I that years I joined different musical project in the city with which I played constantly live. From 2019 I started producing my own music and works coming from different types of client: musician, visual artist, photographer, etc. In 2019 I released my first EP: "The Deepest Sea", in this work my goal was to tell four different stories to everyone is going to listen to it. From the dreamy atmosphere of the first track to the fast rhythm of the last one, this EP will guide you to a strange universe, basically my mind. In 2021 I decided to collect all the different audio tracks from my Instagram series dedicated to the Korg MS20. I fell in love with this instrument deeply and while I was exploring all his possibilities and sound capability, I composed these six tracks trying to capture different frames from a variety of images I had in mind. In September 2021 I composed and recorded with Reverberating Wor/l/ds the soundscape for Mara Giammattei’s photography exhibition “Ricordati la strada di casa” exposed at Arezzo Crowd Festival. In November 2021 I composed and recorded the soundscape for the photography installation “Lo Strappo” realized by Erika Rubino in collaboration with Aps Echoes. The installation was displayed at Villa Bandini’s library and at Teatro dell’Affratellamento in Florence, at Sala S.E.T. Politeama in Poggibonsi, and at Radicondoli. From 2021 to 2022 I worked as a sound technician for Luigi's Cherubini Conservatory in Florence. In September 2022 I performed my first multidisciplinary performance: "Memory in Motion". The performance was created and realized with Gloria Agnello and it was shown in Gorizia inside an abandoned shop. In October 2022 I earned a master's degree in Music and New Technologies at Luigi's Cherubini Conservatory. In November 2022 I did a live soundscape for the beaming of the documentary "L'alluvione della Povera Gente" at Teatro degli Industri in Grosseto. In December 2022 I worked with Cristina Borinschi to create the immersive sound for her art exhibition "Armonia delle sfere". Right now I work as a sound designer, sound technician and boom operator at Mind House in Palermo.
