Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I have been really proud to have been able to do an official remix for Justin Martin, which got signed to Dirtybird records.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, but primarily digital for dance music because of the laser precision that it provides to create a tight mix and master. A hybrid analog/digital setup for mastering provides for great results.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll put my all into making your song sound the best it can. I'll communicate effectively and in a timely manner. I'll deliver on time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to work with other artists and like minded people, make my own hours and hang out in a studio all day. I like the creative environment and the artistic and educational process of mastering an art form.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q. Will I see a more drastic result from mixing rather than just mastering? A. Yes, certain problems will be better fixed in the mix and yield a better result. Q. What file type do I send for Mastering? A. 44,100hz 24 bit Stereo .wav with -6db of headroom. No plugins on master when exporting, no dither applied. Label as "Artist Name - Song Name - Premaster" Q. What do I send for Mixing? A. Export 44,100hz 24 bit Stereo .wav for each individual track in the project. Make sure your levels are not clipping any plugins or tracks and all of your master tracks plugins are turned off when exporting.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing dance music is easy.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What other artists and songs inspire you? What part of the music production process is causing you the most problems.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Trust that I will do everything possible to get your mix sounding the best it can.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Ableton, Laptop, Adam speakers + sub, Audeze heaphones and Moog Sub 37!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been making music and engineering for 20 years. I have also been a music production educator for the last 10 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Bass oriented!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Noizu because his tracks are some of the cleanest and heaviest hitting tracks I have ever played out while DJ'ing.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Use a spectrum analyzer plugin like Voxengo SPAN on your master (free) to be able to view the frequency balance of your mix along with listening. Bring your favorite reference tracks into your DAW and put SPAN on them to see what their balance looks like also and compare to your own. It will then give you an idea of what your mix balance should be visually and a good approximation of the overall tone and balance you are going for.

A: House music

A: Mixing drums and bass for 4x4 style genres.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I have an ear for picking out the subtleties in a mix that will give your tracks an edge
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I mix and mastering over several separate sessions to ensure everything is laser balanced and sounding the best it possibly can.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is a highly tuned mixing studio that sounds great because it has been fully calibrated and acoustically treated. I know how my room sounds and how my mixes will translate to other systems and streaming.
